I Am A Friend Or Relative Of A Current/Past Resident

My friend is at The Montecito. It is a really good place with lots of things to do there. The rooms are large, clean, and modern. The staff seems to be very professional. They have a swimming pool and physical therapy room.

My mom has lived here for 5 yrs. it was gorgeous when she moved in then. Today is another story. The grass is dying, bushes and trees are dying, the pool by her casita is green with algae...but no worries...she can't use it anyway since the gates to this pool are shackled with enormous chains and locks. The air conditioning died the other day and it took several calls to get a response and get a temporary AC unit installed. It took more calls the next day to get the actual AC unit repaired...even with temperatures near 100 degrees. A recent rain storm caused a leak over mom's shower with a big crack in the ceiling and Sheetrock hanging precariously. It has been "inspected" numerous times. But now it's 4 days into my visit here, 4 days since the damage was reported, and still we wait for any repair. In my opinion when it comes to this property ...run do not walk to the nearest exit.Management is only concerned about profit. Mom's rent was stable for 3 yrs. Since new management has taken over her rent has gone up 9 percent in year 4 and now another 9 percent in year 5 while services decline significantly. Staff has been reduced to the point where the concierge desk is frequently deserted, maintenance staff reduced, cleaning staff reduced and finally caregiver staff...reduced. Please ...the last person leaving The Montecito...turn off the lights.

I Am A Friend Or Relative Of A Current/Past Resident

5 Stars all around! My 86 year old mother came to AZ for a visit and through a series of events is now living in The Montecito's Assisted Living Community. I did an extensive and exhaustive search of many communities in and around Sun City, Glendale and Peoria. Though I found several good campuses, none had quite the feel and graciousness of The Montecito. The management has highest standards of safety, cleanliness, friendliness and attends to every detail in my mother's care. I (and my picky mom) have found all staff caring, compassionate, knowledgeable and helpful; this includes the health, maintenance, housekeeping, kitchen and dining room, activities, and business/management teams. Don't let the intake paperwork overwhelm you! Fill it out completely and the entire staff goes from there. They know the residents by name and preferences, truly look at them, interact humorously and keep health and safety in the forefront of each resident's life. Mom's 1 bedroom apartment is spacious, bright and spotless. My mom can be as independent as she needs to be with the 3 daily visual checks, med management, 3 delicious meals. She enjoys the restaurant feel of fine dining and the attentive serving staff. The servers encourage residents to try a varied menu and pay attention to what residents are choosing. Housekeeping is provided once a week and the apartment is cleaned, linens changed, laundry done... all with a smile and friendly communication. She has her own full sized washer and dryer located in her apartment. A new feature is MD24 House Call medical group located onsite, in The Montecito's Wellness Center. The physicians come to the residents. I believe they now have: Internist, opthamologist, psychiatrist, neurologist, cardiologist as well as a full lab and they schedule appointments so your time visiting your loved one is not spent driving to doctor appointments all over town. (I'm learning more about this and will post again as Mom uses the service. Yet, so far, her doctor has been present, friendly and supportive.) There is a clean exercise room where residents can continue their physical therapy on their own or with the assistance of their Home Health Care provider. A library, chapel, beauty salon, game rooms, card tables, pool table, heated pool and spa, patio, upstairs deck and movie theatre with vibrating individual speaker controlled chairs and level concrete walking paths that meander through the 11 acre property are a few of the amenities we've seen and enjoyed. We love the little courtyards and fountains scattered throughout to sit and enjoy the beautiful AZ weather. The activities are set up to promote resident interaction with each other. Aromatherapy, movies, happy hour, meet and greets, shopping trips, local excursions, guest speakers, and special events fill the monthly calendar. The spacious and grand foyer is as welcoming as the receptionists who also know the residents & families, activities and keep an eye on the 'goings on' of the community. If anything, The Montecito is overstaffed (which I hope they never change) with happy competent people and a calm, consistent feeling of well-being. I truly feel my mom has come home.

The services provided have decreased in the time since new ownership. The women left to run the facility do not care if residents are unhappy. The actual owner seems to leave it to these women. Maybe they will question what went wrong after everyone moves out.

I Visited This Community

This facility accepted a deposit for a waiting list on November 27, 2013. By March 30, 2014 they could not provide the type unit I requested and I have no complaint in that regard. However, trying to get my deposit back has been another story. I requested the return of the $500 from two separate "Marketing Directors", each of whom left employment in this facility apparently without forwarding the request to the corporate office for refund. Ultimately I reached a person who asserted she would "be here" and would see that the money was refunded. That has been 10 days and I'm still without a refund.
