I Visited This Community

Hawthorne Court, a memory care community, is a wonderful facility that I have visited several times before. I always enjoy my visits, the residents and staff members are very welcoming and friendly. I am always very picky when it comes to touring memory care communities as the residents in them are not always fully lucid and capable of caring for themselves, so I am very strict about studying the interactions between the residents and staff members. This is what I found during my most recent visit at Hawthorn Court. Facility: The facility is always clean and well-kept. Because it is a memory care facility, a lot of focus needs to be put into maintaining a secure atmosphere, without making the facility feel like a prison and Hawthorn Court has always been great at that. While the building is secure, the residents are able to safely roam about indoors and enjoy the fresh outdoors without putting themselves at risk. Residents: The residents always appear to be well cared for and content. Granted, some of them are confused, scared, and angry at times, these are only symptoms of the memory disorder and not a result of the living environments. The residents, being many times unable to take care of their own basic needs rely strongly on the assistance staff members. Staff/Quality of Care: The staff members interact very lovingly with the residents. In all the times I have visited the community, not once have I heard a staff member become frustrated or impatient with a resident. The staff members make it a point to truly get to know the residents and the residents family members and they are very good with the residents. The staff members appear to be specially trained in working with residents with memory disorders. They are encouraging and excellent at stimulating the residents both mentally and physically. They encourage the residents to keep active and participate in the variety of therapies and activities available to the residents. Activities: The calender is always packed with level of care appropriate activities. The community offers activities that are specially designed to help encourage, inspire, and stimulate the minds, senses, and bodies of residents with memory disorders. They are physical, emotional, and mentally stimulating programs and therapies which help the residents to strengthen their minds and bodies. Food: While I have never personally tried the food, the residents and staff members speak highly of the food service and the kitchen staff.
