Holiday Courtyard at Lakewood

My mom moved into Courtyard at Lakewood. It seems pretty nice, the staff is extremely helpful, and it seemed like a nice community. Mom seems to be happy with it. It’s very clean, it used to be a hotel, and you get that vibe when you walk into it. They have a number of daily activities which occur all the time, they have a number of different church services for people of different denomination, they have a game room/exercise room, and an absolutely huge dining hall area. They provide shuttle service, light housekeeping, and launder sheets and pillowcases for you. In as far as the number of amenities, they’re the best thing for the buck.

We signed a contract to go into The Courtyard At Lakewood. We chose it because we could get a 2-bedroom unit right away. The amenities that they offer are equivalent to most of the other places. It's an older facility so it doesn't have all the bells and whistles -- like the crystal chandeliers that other places have -- but they offer a lot more amenities. The standard free amenities include TV, free Wi-Fi, heated garage, and there is no charge for loved ones to come in and eat. We have a balcony and storage in the building somewhere. It's well-maintained, cleaned well, and it's 119 units so it's a big facility. They have a huge dining room and they have a big variety of food on the menu. They will accommodate you with most any vegetable you want, and they have small, regular, or large portions, whichever you wish. In that respect it's very accommodating. The staff has all been gracious as could be. The only drawback is the age of the building.

My parents are at The Courtyard At Lakewood. It's a great location off the main road but easy to get to. The staff has been very accommodating. My parents seem to be doing fine. The rooms are bigger than a lot of other places we looked. My parents are in a one-bedroom that has a small full kitchen and a balcony. When you move in, you get a new refrigerator, a new stove, and a new carpet, and they painted the whole place. The people were very friendly and helpful when we moved in. They really take care of you.

I'm at The Courtyard At Lakewood. Overall it's okay, but certain areas need improvement. The living quarters are nice, clean and kept up. The staff is fine and they have a lot of activities. The food needs improvement. It's prepared good and it's tasty, but the planning of the amount that they need to prepare for their residents needs to be checked into a little further.

The activities director at The Courtyard At Lakewood was very helpful, very nice, and very informative. The facilities for two people were tad too small, but they were very nice, and they were far from the elevator access. It was a big U-shaped building and all the apartments were around it. The dining hall was right in the center of that. My wife has breathing and walking problems and that's a drawback. If we were both mobile, I wouldn't have any problem with that. The apartments on the Salisbury side of the street have a little bit of a balcony that you can go out on. The apartment that they showed me was extremely clean, but the hallway could use some updates cleaning wise.

The staff at The Courtyard at Lakewood seemed friendly, but the rooms were small. They were between 800 and 900 square feet, and we're looking for something a little bit larger for independent living. They offer exercise classes.
