I Am A Friend Or Relative Of A Current/Past Resident

My father became very ill and needed a place to assist him in daily life. We began to search and found the point of pines. He lived there a 3 years. He does have a family that loves him dearly and we made sure things where right for him. The place is very eye catching don't let that fool you. What's going on inside is a mess. The medication arrangement is a nightmare! Do not let them give your loved ones medication. We had to completely take over his medication from the beginning. My advice to you do the same ,they are so unorganized and are not qualified to pass out medication to anyone. The staff is not trained. Most of them are very young. The turnover rate for employees is unbelievable. The food is the worst. It was is often unrecognizable. It is tasteless. It is either undercooked or overcooked or served cold. It is just plain gross. I went with my dad to at least two meeting they had in cafeteria to hear people's complaints ,what a joke that was ,and a waste of time. They did nothing. So we bought a refrigerator put it in his room and provided food the best we could for him. They do not allow microwaves in rooms. They provide two microwaves for everyone to share. They also said we will clean your room once a week. Well as always we took over that too. We even went and shampooed his carpets twice in the three years. To keep his room nice. They could care less. This last year they started to change the population. it was turning into halfway house for young criminals, or a drug rehab gone bad, or a psych ward. The majority of the people living there now have issues in the above areas. There is rampant drug use, parole officers visiting all the time, police visits relating to the "ex-criminals. My dad witnessed people getting kicked out for doing and selling drugs. We decided for his safety to move him out. my dad is a good hearted person. No elderly person deserves this kind of treatment. Luckily he has family around him to watch out for his well being. There's a lot of elderly that really depend on point of pines to take care of them, and it's not happening. It's so sad to see this. They only want your money and don't care about the people. After three years no one said we wish you well, good bye, nothing! What a long three years we experienced there. Stay away from this place it's just getting worse.

I Am A Current/Past Resident

I lived there for 8 months and also found the place a big disappointment. It doesn't feel like an assisted living, if feels like a halfway house for criminals, or a drug rehab gone bad, or a psych ward. The majority of the people living there have issues in the above areas. There is rampant drug use, parole officers visiting all the time, police visits relating to the "ex-criminals", and a lot of bad "acting out" by mental patients. The staff are off the street everyday folks, not trained to deal with this population. Most of them are very young. The turnover rate for employees is the worst I have ever seen. Privacy and dignity are non-exsistent for the residence, despite doors that lock. The staff is often entering your room, sometimes as much as 6 times a day and doesn't knock. They just use their key and walk in. I was stolen from several times, and my room was "tossed" and left a mess twice. I asked if a room search had taken place, with the intent of complaining of the mess they left. They denied searching rooms that day, so I have to wonder who else was able to access my room. The security cams were not even checked after I complained. The food is the worst I have ever had anywhere. It is often unrecognizable. It is tasteless. It is either undercooked or overcooked. It is just plain gross. I went to bed starving many nights. It is always very salty tasting, which is not good for high blood pressure nor for anyone really. My biggest concern, despite all of the above is the managements lack of concern when a bad situation does happen. I was overdosed on someone else's meds, per the ER doctor. I was awakened early in the morning, given someone else's meds, passed out about a half hour later and don't remember much of anything for the next 24 hours. I had all the symptoms of a stroke. It was very frightening for what I do recall. I now have a CAT scan that states my heart is damaged, and had a previous one shortly before that incident where it was just fine. I can not even get someone to talk to me or call me back regarding this situation. They wouldn't talk to me after I returned either. My doctor was concerned enough that he placed a report with the state. He also called the Nursing Director's office and gave them heck. I have more to say but guess I am out of space.

I Am A Current/Past Resident

With the exception of the owner Matt, the Administrator Kris, and a couple of the staff members (two, literally) this place is a living nightmare. The staff exhibits a blatant disregard for the residents, usually too busy talking or texting on their cell phones about personal affairs to do their job or by any means make an attempt to be courteous or exert any extra effort to make a resident's day a little better. On top of this, resident's personal affairs, medical information and history, and life circumstances are discussed freely and openly in the hallways and common areas by staff either staff member-to-staff member, staff member-to-other residents, and even staff member-to-outsiders (friends and family). Rumors and unfounded speculation regarding residents and their personal life is generated and circulated around by the staff on a daily basis and often discussed with other residents. It seems the staff as a whole seek to intentionally eliminate any sense of dignity and/or personal privacy from the residents' lives. There is also a rampant and obvious drug problem that has remained unaddressed and continues to grow from within, completely unchecked. Smoking of both cigarettes and marijuana in the rooms is commonplace and the hallways and stairs frequently wreak of it as a result. Bottom line, if you have a choice (and with the rapidly expanding group housing and assisted-living facilities in Colorado you do), do not choose Point of the Pines Gardens. Especially if you are looking for a nice facility to cater to the evolving needs of a senior still participating in the day-to-day. This place is much closer to a mental health facility or halfway home then anything else. The owner tries his best to keep the place clean and maintained and the administration has hearts of gold. But, the staff and open-door policy regarding residents has turned it into a last-ditch alternative to homelessness and not much more.
