I moved into independent living at Atria Hillsdale. The staff is very friendly and responsive. The rooms are 1-bedroom studio apartments with a bathroom, and housekeeping cleans it once a week. There's lots to do around here if you can get around. It's conveniently located. They offer limited transportation. They have bingo, poker, word games, and brain games. I do a lot of reading. It's cheaper than some.
I was very impressed with Atria Hillsdale when I went inside. The place seemed well-run and very nice, but my insurance just couldn't cover that. The person who accommodated me was very nice. Their common areas are very open and nice, and the big dining area is open to the public. It was an extremely clean community, and I liked the layout because everything opened into one area. It's just a little off-putting because it's right off a major highway, but when you go inside, it's completely different.
Atria Hillsdale was building a new memory care wing. The gentleman was very nice. They did have a big dining room, but I know that for people that can't come down, they bring the food to them. They have an "Atria Van" that takes them to Walgreens. If my father would have liked to have moved into a bigger place, I probably would have moved him into this community.
Atria Hillsdale seemed nice. The guy who was trying to get my dad in there was very attentive. When I walked in the facility, it was clean and nice. They had two big dining areas. I liked them enough to take my dad there.
My father-in-law is in Atria Hillsdale. It’s not overly large and seems to have the right amount of friendly staff to the right amount of people. There isn't much to the grounds, but my father-in-law has to be in a lockdown facility. The food is pretty good. The neighborhood is fine. The community is right off the freeway, and you have the Kaiser right there.
The overall experience with Atria Hillsdale wasn’t good. It’s in an area with a lot of traffic and hard to get into. The parking is terrible. The place is old, and the room had an old heating unit in it where you had to have a maintenance guy come in to turn the heat down. I said, "No, I don’t need this place." It was too much trouble. I met the manager who was very nice and represented the place well. They had a nice dining room.
Atria Hillsdale was not a real good place for my mother because she is visually impaired and the hallways were not very bright. She is also using a walker and a wheelchair and will not be able to navigate herself around that place. It would be a fine facility for someone who is not as impaired as my mom. The dining area looked pretty nice and looked out into a courtyard and had a pleasant atmosphere for eating, more like a restaurant. The gentleman who met us was the director, and he had a good, positive attitude about helping people. He wasn't pushy and was informative, helpful, and courteous.
When we went to visit Atria Hillsdale, the place was livelier compared to the other place we’ve been to. When we got there, they were doing activities. It felt like it was a more social place. The residents were ambulatory. It's not posh and a little dated, but it’s still very nice. The director was very nice to us.
