My sister moved to Brookdale Grand Terrace. The people are very helpful and fantastic. She seemed to perk up more as a person there and she has actually gotten to know the people, which is nice. The people are lovely and she's happy there, to an extent. I have a problem with the men's bathroom because there are smells in the hallway. It bothered me and they closed it off, so the smell isn't there anymore. They're very nice and they have muffins in the morning. They have a water diffuser with oranges and fruit. They can have coffee if they want, and they have a great television activity room. The outside is beautiful. They're very considerate and understanding. They only have a bus on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, but since my sister has her eye surgery they were going to take her to the doctors on Thursday since it was an emergency. They go out of their way to make it purposefully helpful for the residents.
Dad was at Brookdale Grand Terrace for almost a year. It was a nice place, but he needed more care because he was getting worse. During his first six months there, he had his own key to his big studio apartment and would go downstairs to eat at the dining area. He fell three times and went downhill. It was more independent than assisted living, so we had to move Dad somewhere else. Somebody was supposed to be checking on my dad if he was eating, and we found out that he wasn’t eating. There were also instances where they lost some of his clothes.
We visited Brookdale. We met one of the directors, one of the main nurses, and the head chef, and they were all very friendly. The place was pretty clean. I did not detect any problems in that regard. It was a little bit older, though, but it was maintained pretty nicely. It had a big reception room and a lot of residents out there, either sitting or reading or conversing and stuff like that. The dining area was nice. It had a courtyard. Overall, the facility was pretty nice.
I visited Brookdale Grand Terrace. I thought it was a great, adequate facility. There were no extracurricular things, but it was clean and safe. More importantly, the staff seemed to really care. It was small, so they could keep an eye on the residents. The people looked healthy and happy. I thought it was a great place to put my father. Security was good. You had to sign in and sign out, and they seemed to pay attention to who were there. I thought that because they had a very long driveway, it would keep anyone from just casually going in there. They were in a good spot in terms of not getting walk-ins. If you were going there, you were there for a reason.
