Earning a place on Money Magazine’s “Top 100 Best Places to Live” list in both 2006 and 2008, this “city in the country” boasts a thriving business industry, wide range of shopping and dining opportunities, and nearly 20 square miles of dedicated open space within the city limits. Poway Recreation

Residents of assisted living in Poway have their choice of recreational sites for enjoying the warm California sun. At Community Park in the heart of Poway, residents can spend their days playing bocce ball, cheering on a local youth sports game or taking a dip at the Poway Swim Center. Another popular local destination is the Lake Poway Recreation Area that encompasses both the Lake and adjacent park. Two scenic gazebos frame the park, which is a great place for picnicking and leisurely strolls. The park is also home to an archery range, horseback riding trails and some of the area’s best fishing spots for Trout and Catfish.

Poway Activities

For a trip back in time, residents enjoying assisted living in Poway head to Old Poway Park. Opened in 1993, the park is home to the Boardwalk Craft Market, historical Nelson House, Poway Heritage Museum and a fully-operational 1907 Baldwin Steam Locomotive which operates daily rides around the park. Seniors gather at the Poway Senior Center in Community Park to participate in the Center’s many enrichment classes, enjoy a hot lunch, take a tour of a local hotspot or join a rousing game of Bingo. The Center also offers door-to-door transportation services to help seniors get to and from Community Park.

Poway Medical Facilities

Since 1977, residents of assisted living in Poway have been cared for by the staff at Pomerado Hospital. The 107-bed facility is part of the Palomar Pomerado Health System which has several campuses in the San Diego area. Pomerado’s Emergency Services department is open 24-hours a day and the hospital is known for its cardiac and vascular care, gero-psychiatric unit, rehabilitation services and wound care center.

Poway Transportation

Public transit in Poway is run by the Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) which operates bus and trolley services in the greater San Diego area. Residents of assisted living in Poway can hop on one of two fixed bus routes that connect to the MTS Trolley route circling San Diego’s major destinations. Seniors who are unable to ride regular buses due to a disability are welcome to use the MTS Access paratransit program that offers curb-to-curb service in specially designated, wheelchair-equipped buses.
