The Last Stop: Being Alone

Margery Fridstein at an Art ShowMy fellow residents were marvelously responsive and supportive as I adjusted to widowhood. I doubt if I had been living in our original home in Glencoe, Illinois or our more recent home in Snowmass Village, Colorado that I would have been as well supported.

Certainly my dear friends of the past would have done all they could for me, but I think living with people who have either been though the experience of death of a spouse or those who may soon be in the same boat leads to special empathy. My friends here at my Retirement Community invited me to join them for meals, attended events with me and looked out for me in a variety of ways.

This post was written by Margery Fridstein, an author and retired psychotherapist who lives in a CCRC outside of Denver, CO. She is chronicling her experience in the monthly series, “The Last Stop With Margery Fridstein.”
