2010 National Assisted Living Week Slated for September 12th – September 18th

September 12th through September 18th will mark the 2010 National Assisted Living Week, which was first established by the National Center for Assisted Living in 1995. This year’s theme, “Living Life,” signifies that people of all ages can live life to the fullest by participating in activities that they enjoy and pursuing their passions. Living Life logo

This year’s program encourages the lifelong pursuit of growth and fulfillment, sharing our history, and teaching others what we have learned. Assisted living facilities across the country will be celebrating National Assisted Living Week with programs and activities designed to encourage residents to embrace their talents and passions.

The National Assisted Living Week Product Guide & Planning Catalog is packed with ideas for exciting events — an activity director’s dream. Included among the ideas are an art festival extravaganza (an excellent idea for getting an Alzheimer’s unit involved — see our related post on therapeutic art for dementia patients), a food celebration that features nightly cuisine from a different culture, and a classic, nostalgia-filled trivia game featuring beloved cartoon and television characters from the past.

Assisted living providers are already making headlines with their plans to celebrate National Assisted Living Week. Dogwood Trails Assisted Living and Memory Care Center, a Palestine assisted living facility, is hosting five events next week — four of which have been planned by the residents themselves. A Webster City assisted living provider, Southfield, is kicking off the week with a “Crusin’ South” car and tractor show.

National Assisted Living Week is about helping residents celebrate their lives and look forward to a fun-filled future, no matter what their age. What does your facility have planned?
