I Visited This Community
Catalina Village is an Assisted Living facility in Tucson that has a special care program catering to residents with behavioral issues. I have been to Catalina Village several times now have always had positive visits. Most of the care team that oversees the behavioral health section of the community are wonderful people – they are amazing in their interaction with the residents and they really seem to enjoy working with and caring for the residents. Caring for people with behavioral issues can be trying and problems may pop off at any moment – however, the care team is made up of people who are great under pressure. They are good at de-escalating situations and calming residents. I have never seen any members of the care team lose their patience or become discouraging to the residents. Caring for someone with behavioral health issues requires staff members with patience, empathy, and an encouraging nature – which are all qualities that the members of the care team demonstrate day in and day out. The care team is made up of people who are well trained in the emotional, physical, and mental needs of the residents and the care they provide is individualized and therapeutic to the specific needs of each resident. They offer great activities, therapies, and programs to help the residents reverse their behavior or learn ways to cope with and monitor their behavioral triggers and issues. If you are searching for assisted living for someone with behavioral health issues, then Catalina Village is an excellent starting point. My only wish is that the community housed only residents with behavioral health issues and not regular assisted living residents. I have had several regular assisted living residents tell me that the even though the staff does their best to keep the groups separated that their daily lives are still often disrupted by arguing, screams, loud noises, etc. which can become very disruptive. The assisted living residents who do not have any behavioral health issues should not have their lives affected by the residents that do. It’s like having noisy, disruptive neighbors and the residents pay a lot of money each month, therefore, they deserve a relaxing and peaceful home environment.
