Cascades of Tucson was our second choice. It had the same feature as other communities. It was nice. We could have a two-bedroom apartment; however, you have to bring your own furniture.

My visit at Cascades of Tucson was lovely. It had assisted living too, so there were CNAs running around in uniforms, and that was a little disconcerting when you don't need assisted living yet. That made me a little uncomfortable. It was a very nice place with very nice facilities, but it was hospital like. They had activities, they had a lovely theater with a popcorn machine in it, and they had a swimming pool. The staff member was a sweetheart. It's a nice place.

We were very impressed with Cascades of Tucson and it was more of what we were looking for. It was a larger place and everybody seemed very friendly. They were active and they were participating. There was a little painting class going on in one place and everyone was laughing and having a good time. We had lunch there and we were impressed with the food.

I really liked the Cascades of Tucson; however, the community was too big for my mother. Our visit was very good and very informative. The people were very nice and friendly. They had a movie theater, laundry, and almost all the amenities you could want. Some of the apartments were one-bedroom, one-bath, and all had call buttons. Some of the more independent ones had little kitchenettes in them. Others were without a kitchenette and had just a small refrigerator.

Cascades of Tucson is a very nice facility but very expensive on their second guest and very stingy on their food program. The service in the dining area was good, but for dessert, I asked for ice cream, and I got one very skimpy dip. My husband had the cake and asked for a scoop of ice cream but they said it should be "one or the other" which I thought was a little unusual. The woman who showed us around was very nice and helpful. She even told us to let her know if she could help us in any way even if we didn't choose their place, so I thought that was very gracious of her. You had to go out of the building to go to the cafeteria which isn't a very good idea for elderly people in bad weather.

Cascades of Tucson was an older facility. They were doing some updating, but it wasn't all of their facility. It didn't feel as homey. We were looking at the memory care unit, which was a subsection of their main facility. It was a little sad. The staff was very pleasant and very cordial. There wasn't any interaction because of the type of residents there were in memory care. The facilities were clean. There's a shopping mall that's very close.
