I looked at the assisted living and the memory care of Amethyst Gardens. It was nice and clean. It seemed good. It is a little big. My mom likes it but she might get confused. The staff members were great and very nice. The dining area was fine. I saw people getting on a mini bus, and I saw some people outside walking. The place was good.
My mom moved in to Amethyst Gardens. They are outstanding. The care is consistent and efficient. The staff is personable and accommodating. They have morning aerobics and movie nights. The place is very well-kept.
I'm a resident of Amethyst Gardens. There are things I would change about it. The food could be better, and I end up eating in my room quite a bit and buying my own groceries. My apartment is very nice. I have a living room, a kitchen area, a small dining area and then one bath and one bedroom. I have a little den off to the side of the living room, and that's where my office is with my computer and books. Another thing I've noticed about this company is that they're family-owned, not on the stock-exchange. And they seem to be looking for ways to increase the price. Theyre just nickel-and-dimers to death, so I'm not happy about that. They had a $150 fee for paying your rent late, even if it's only one day, then they increased that to $350. If you go to the dining room and you want to take the meal with you, the meal that you've already paid for, they charge you extra. Things like that really upset me. A lot of the people who work here are nice. It seems like they're quite short-handed, though, because they never seem to have enough people to cover the job. They take people out to eat for lunch and to certain entertainment venues. Entertainers come in and play music here, and they serve alcohol and have cheese and crackers in the afternoons a couple days a week. They have live entertainment, and on holidays they do special meals. One thing they're good about is transporting us to doctors' visits. I like all the staff members. I think they're hard-working people, but they complain about being tired. There's an employee that doesn't want to do their share and they let them get away with it; the others resent that that person and don't want to do his share. I think I am paying an awful lot for what I'm getting at well over $4,000 a month. They have beautiful grounds. The landscaping is pretty and kept up nicely for the most part. Also, they take Medicaid.
Amethyst Gardens was very nice and had a nice outside area with trees, grass areas, good shade, and lots of patio areas for residents to go out and sit in the fresh air. It was very well taken care of and it was in a nice area. The apartments were pretty nice, but they didn't have a lot of privacy. The lady who showed us around was pretty nice.
We visited Amethyst Gardens, but my mom couldn't walk on her own, so they couldn't take her. It was a very nice place, it was clean, and the cafeteria area was really nice, plus the food was good. We looked at a studio and 1-bedroom apartment, and it comes with a kitchenette. It was all good, but they couldn't accommodate her because she requires a two-man lift. The staff there was very helpful and the person who gave us the tour did what she could. All the people seemed very nice. They have a few programs that the residents can do to mingle, they can take them out to the store, or they can sign up to eat at restaurants. It's a very nice place.
I'm at Amethyst Gardens, and everything here is absolutely perfect. It's a beautiful facility. The staff is fantastic. The food is perfect.
Amethyst is a lovely place. My mom loves her one-bedroom apartment, and everybody there is very friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. The food is excellent. They have a salon, exercise room, and a library. They also have laundry facilities, so you can do your own laundry.
Amethyst was very nice. The staff was very nice and friendly. The dining setup was great. The facility was very clean and neat.
I'm a current resident of Amethyst. I like that there are people from our church that I know who live here. I can get a ride from here to church as well. They provide housekeeping and laundry service, and a beauty shop. Other than independent and assisted living, they also have a place for people with dementia. The staff is wonderful; if I have any questions, they come down right away.
Amethyst was very good and they were reasonable with the discounts they were offering. They have one step pricing as opposed to per care, so it's not a point system. The menu looked good and everybody was very friendly and knowledgeable. It's kind of large, hallway-wise, and I could see potential of somebody getting lost, but they have plenty of staff to help the residents. They are close to the residents' rooms if they get out, and they have a 30 second alarm, but I don't think it would be adequate for escapees.
Amethyst was beautiful and huge. I liked it a lot, but it was too far from where we live. It would have been hard for my mother-in-law and my mother to participate in a lot of activities. It was very clean and well-kept, and the rooms were nice.
Amethyst was fine and we were very happy with what we saw, but they didn’t have the facilities that we're requiring for my dad. The place was clean, the people were friendly, we got a thorough tour of the place, and lots of our questions were answered. The rooms were clean and everything was fine.
Thank you for sharing your review! We appreciate your feedback and we're glad you enjoyed your visit with us!
The Amethyst is excessively large and spread out, which would be inconvenient for me. I had lunch there, and I did not like the food. There's something there that's not quite right. The lounge area where you wait was very large, and the first thing that caught my eye was the beautiful terrace set there, but the arms were all dirty. I did not get a clean feel at all, and the air didn’t smell fresh. The rooms were OK, but no, I would not go there. The person who served us was fine and great.
Thank you for taking time to provide us with your feedback. We’re sorry to hear that your visit at Amethyst Arbor did not live up to the expectations we strive for. It’s important to us that we understand and address your concerns, so we invite you to reach out to our Executive Director at our community phone number. Thank you again for your input, and we look forward to hearing from you!
Amethyst was a pretty big place; it's clean and well-organized. They were doing some activities with some of the people. I had a very good impression of the grounds. The apartments looked fairly nice, not overly large, but it would be good for 1 or 2 people. The lady who took me around was very helpful and answered my questions. The chef came out and introduced himself. Everybody that I came in contact with was very nice and friendly.
Sharon, thank you for sharing your review of our community! We appreciate your feedback and we're so pleased that you enjoyed your visit with us!
The Amethyst was a beautiful facility. You have your own room, which could either be a 1-bedroom or a 2-bedroom. I saw a studio, and you provide all the furnishings. It would be great for assisted living, especially if you are ambulatory. The food was good, and they have all kinds of things that you can do. The staff was very friendly. They have a big sitting room where you can read, and they have a place for Happy Hour, which was sort of a tailored cafeteria; it was beautiful. I know they have an exercise room.
Thank you so much for sharing your experience at The Amethyst; we appreciate your feedback and are so pleased that you enjoyed your visit with us!
As soon as you enter this community you certainly notice its size. With many buildings on its beautifully landscaped campus it can be a little confusing to find your way around, but once you do, it size seems to shrink away to a smaller homelike feel. Geared more toward a senior who wants to have people their own age around and great activities and may need a little help here and there its perfect considering you can add services and no one else can tell, which is hugely important to a lot of seniors. Another building houses a nice memory care area, although rooms are good sized it does have a slight institutional feel to it, however the warmth of the staff helps. I have been to this area more than a couple times to find residents just left sitting around with out any activities to help keep them busy, and they seemed to be a little understaffed for a memory care unit, but it could have been a day with a sick call, or staff may be on their much needed break as well. Pricing is good and residents and families generally are in good spirits, which is maybe the best indicator around.
I recently took a close family friend to view the Amethyst for her father for whom she was looking for senior living. Up until our visit to Amethyst, she had been on 8 different tours of communities around the Glendale/Peoria vicinity. To that point, nothing had measured up to the requirements she had in a senior living community for her father. She turned to me because of my experience with senior living communities and I immediately thought of the Amethyst since it is just 2-3 miles from the family’s home. Because I had visited Amethyst several times, of which each time was a complete joy, I had high hopes for her reaction to be a positive one. We got to Amethyst and were immediately received by such a warm and friendly welcome. The staff member who I had scheduled the tour with on the phone the day prior was well prepared and spoke to both my friend and I by name. She introduced herself and throughout the entire tour, she was extremely friendly. She spoke highly of the community – and not in a way that sounded like a sales pitch, but in a truly genuine manner – she seemed to really love the facility and the residents within it. She took the time to answer every single question and concern with very informed and compassionate answers – our tour actually went 45 minutes over the suggested time – She understood that this was a tough decision for my friend and that my friend was only looking for the best for her father. The staff member was empathetic to my friend’s feelings and to the situation. I think my favorite part of the tour was when the staff member asked my friend about her father, what he was like, any hobbies that he enjoyed, etc. She then introduced my friend and I to several residents with whom her father had something in common – such as her father was a Veteran and the lady introduced us to another resident who was also a Veteran and actually fought in the same war my friend’s father fought in. The level of compassion and empathy that I saw that day was truly exceptional. Needless to say, my friend thought so to and moved her father in the following month. She truly felt as if she were doing her good by her father in placing him at the Amethyst – as did I. This was by far my favorite visit to this community and I would recommend it to anyone who is involved in the trying and difficult search for the perfect senior living community.
The quality of service at the Inn at Amethyst is truly outstanding. I took a friend's grandmother to view the facility, and though she was a little nervous at first, the staff were so personable and made her feel very welcome. We joined in an activity they were having and she had the greatest time socializing and making new friends. Following the activity, we enjoyed dinner in the dining room, and she fell in love with the meatloaf gravy and mashed potatoes. She said that it was absolutely the epitome of a home cooked meal. She said the food alone was worth making the move to the facility. When it was time to leave, I practically had to pull her out of there! I was incredibly happy with how the staff made her feel so welcome. They almost instantly put any anxiety she may have been feeling to rest by introducing her to residents and getting her involved with the activities. They gave her an idea of what a typical day living there would be like, and I think that really helped her to feel more comfortable with the impending transition from her own home to her assisted living home. She realized that her life there was not going to impose the boring and sedentary lifestyle she had been afraid of. Instead she found that the Inn at Amethyst supports and encourages a very active and healthy lifestyle and they going even further in this support by offering residents a wide variety of different activities to choose from each month. She really fell in love with the Inn at Amethyst and I was very impressed with the quality of service and care that I observed.
I have recently moved my Mother to the Inn. The first day I came in to tour the facility everyone was very attentive and courteous. The staff has been great! I'm very impress with the follow up from day one. The best thing is receiving daily updates from her care taker regarding my mothers care and her transition to a new home. I thank the management and care staff for giving my family such great piece of mind knowing my mother is well taken care. God Bless and thank you once again for such inspiring dedication!
The staff is an A plus, more than excellent at the Inn. The office is a let down, they forged my husbands initals on a lease document and changed out the original lease that was signed. The facility is very good, but I would be very leary about the business office. At the best, they are dishonest and perhaps with the forgery, somewhat criminal. I will be working to resolve this situation with them over the next few months. So far, I have been tied up with a personal move and business and I haven't had the time to work with our legal council or their office on this, but I will be over the next 3-4 weeks. I will do another posting after I am able to meet with them.
My parents both live at the Amethyst in Peoria. They have been there a little over a year. The first few months were pretty confusing with no real person in charge to talk with. That has changed in most areas. Most of the staff is great. Here are the pluses. My parents enjoy the activities in the community on a daily basis. They talk a lot about going to trips and events all the time this is big thing for them because they would not have any entertainment without the activities in the community. Activities being scheduled regularly that are covering all interests rather than just a few interests is a big plus. My mother is not a quilt maker but does enjoy many other activities. My dad asks all the time where she is going and the answer is usually to an activity she is interested in. Also, every week on Friday both my mom and dad are at happy hour with live entertainment. Just recently my parents have told me about how good the food is. My mom has a digestive disorder and she even said that the food is much better now than before. My dad on the other hand has lost the ability to talk about anything other then how good the food is now. I was skeptical to be quite honest. Yesterday I was down for a visit and all i can say is wow !! Whoever made the changes in food at the Amethyst you are my parents hero. I myself ate lunch with my parents and was impressed with everything. The menu is a real menu not some school cafeteria offering. they cn order anything they want off the menu and not have to eat whatever the Chef made that day. what a nice change for them. The food looked appetizing for the first time since I have been in the dining room. The food is a top notch reason why my parents want to stay after it being a reason for them wanting to move to another facility as little as 2 months ago. The only issue on going is the nursing situation. I know they have a new person in charge and i have talked with her on several occasions. She is more interested in being right than caring. She is really a bull about almost everything. I have heard from others that this is how she is. My sister wanted to talk about some medication questions two weeks ago and got nowhere with her. Rushed, i do not have time for you and overbearing towards staff member is what she reported to me. She is a desk nurse at best not a bed side nurse. There may be a nursing change coming soon. I hope so. She really has no people skills and no care in her whatsoever. She has a horrible demeanor to be in that environment. Oh well 1 area bad does not erase the good things in all the other areas.
The physical plant of this community is beautiful, however over the past several years there has been a considerable and consistent turnover in leadership and management resulting in a lack of continuity in care provision.
History of constantly changing mgmt and "directors". No night time security for residents. Often unable to get anyone in the facility to answer the phone at night because there is no staff person hired to answer the phone (Even medical providers are unable to reach the staff). Very poor food quality and presentation. Food is tasteless. Owners of the facilities remain hidden and the name and address of the ownership is not posted as required by law. Poor maintenance staffing due to staff reduction and reduction of wages of staff. Inadequate housekeeping personnel (staff has been reduced). History of rodent and mold infestation w/ poor responsiveness to repeated requests for services at the onset. Mgmt responded only after complaints were filed w/ the state.
I value your feedback on our community. While we are thoroughly disappointed that you did not have a better experience we take any feedback seriously to ensure that going forward our residents are highly satisfied while residing at The Amethyst. When Senior Lifestyle acquired management of The Amethyst in 2012 it was apparent that significant changes were needed. The focus revolved around recruiting and retaining talented professionals, improving oversight and delivery of care, and enhancing the level of customer service throughout all departments within the community. As the Executive Director I am dedicated to earning a high level of satisfaction from our residents and to being responsive to their concerns and to those of their family members. I encourage you to come visit our beautiful community, meet our dedicated staff and to personally join me to experience our revamped menu in our dining room. I look forward to seeing you. Sincerely, Executive Director at The Amethyst.
