Grand Court of Mesa offers Independent and Assisted Living. It is an okay community – middle of the road at best. I feel there are some positive aspects of the community as well as some unfortunate issues that need to be addressed, but for some reason never seem to get the attention they deserve, therefore they have remained issues from my very first visit down to my most recent one. First, on certain days the entire facility smells very strongly of cleaning products, almost to the point where it stings your eyes and nose while on other days, I don’t smell it at all. I don’t know if they have certain products that they use on certain days or if different cleaning tasks are completed on certain days, but maybe they should address either the type of product(s) they are using or adjust the amount they use of each product. And the issue does not lie with me just being too sensitive to the smells of the product – I have heard complaints/comments from at least a dozen people – visitors mainly. The residents do not seem to be too bothered by the smell, but it could just be that they have adjusted to the odors. Second, and onto a more serious matter, I have had several issues with some of the staff members, involving certain interactions with residents, quality of care issues, as well as some cleanliness and sanitation issues. Don’t get me wrong, most of the employees are great. They are excellent at their specific jobs and in interacting with and caring for the residents. However, there are a select few employees who never seem to correct the manner in which they conduct themselves or complete their tasks at work; nor do they improve any on how they treat and care for the residents. It is as if, no matter the amount or severity of the complaints/concerns, nothing is ever done about the quality of care or work ethics. This makes the residents, family members, and/or visitors feel as if their opinions/concerns do not matter. This is not the best way to run a facility. It is so important that residents and their families are confident in and are able to place trust in the community they choose. They need to know that their concerns will always be addressed and taken seriously. When multiple complaints are made about the same issue, yet nothing is ever resolved – it leads people to believe that their feelings don’t matter. A resident should NEVER feel that way. As I said before, there are some positive aspects to the community as well. For instance, many of the staff members are outstanding. They are always ready and willing to help and they are exceptional in the way they care for the residents. It is unfortunate that these employees are not allowed to shine and get the admiration they deserve as the focus always seems to be on the few employees who cause problems. Yet – nothing is ever done about this. Next, the facility is nice – 3 stories tall with many areas for relaxation and socialization. The common areas are comfortably designed and furnished. Although, some of the rooms do not allow in a lot of natural light, making the rooms seem a bit dark and depressing. Considering the facility is 3 stories tall, the building seems to be secure with appropriate safety features and well-equipped for those with mobility issues. The activity calendar is excellent. There are many fun activities and entertainment options available to the residents. To be fair – it has been a little over 6 months since my last visit, so hopefully things have greatly improved. I am basing my observations off of the 20 or so visits I have made to the community over the last few years. I recommend taking a tour of the community to gather your own opinion on the community.
Very nice facility. Staff excellent and accommodating. Very good with getting back to residents on a timely basis to address any concerns. Great commodity among residents.
