Administration is not helpful and they have violated my mother's Resident's Rights mutliple times. They will not provide her charts to me despite my written request following their handbook. I was told because the Director is sick despite the Garden House Director, regional nurse and VP were all included on the email. I am her POA. I hired a nursing consultant and provided written authorization for all records to be provided to her and the General Manager refused to provide my mom's charts and is refusing to give them to me. There were unauthorized medication changes and was a struggle to get them back per her doctors order. It took almost a month to get her care plan, despite my multiple requests. This is to be reviewed and signed within 14 days if changes.

I didn't particularly care for The Oaks because the rooms were rather small. I didn't particularly care for the setup there. The staff was great. They welcomed me and they walked me around the whole facility. They've got different sections in the place. One of the sections was the Alzheimer's ward, which was locked up. They walked me through it and I wasn't too keen on that part. I saw the single bedrooms. It was a newer place, but the rooms were very small. They also had shared bathrooms. In other words, two rooms would have an adjoining bathroom, so you would share it. I wasn't too keen on that.
My mother has moved into The Oaks. We definitely like it, it's a nice place. Everyone was incredibly friendly. There are definitely good staff members who are exceptionally professional at what they do, and there are also staff members who should not to be there. In general though, the staff is very good and very attentive. She has been sick a fair amount, so she's doing a few things here and there. She is playing cards, getting her nails done, and things of that nature, but she's not real active. I've only had one meal there and it was fine. She likes the food, and I haven't heard her complain at all about it. I haven't had the opportunity to see all of the other activities just because she's been sick.
Our experience with The Oaks has been very good. My mother will move in the end of this month, and I've visited twice. It had a very good atmosphere, and there seemed to be a lot of attention given to the residents. The rooms were excellent. She's going to be in the memory care part of this community, so she won't have a kitchenette or anything like that. She will have a refrigerator and a microwave oven, which we will provide. There was a calendar of activities that they provided us, and it seemed like they stay pretty active. It seemed like there's quite a few things going on to keep them occupied and at least keep some of their brain activity going. They even have a mini garden where they can grow plants and vegetables, which is something that keeps them active. We also met the person that's in charge of making sure that that facility is clean too. They were actively pursuing our business. The person that we met also communicated through emails. The other thing that convinced us was the fact that they were more price-competitive than the other place. The assisted living side had anytime dining; it was from 7:00 in the morning to 7:00 at night, which is nice because not everybody is hungry at the same time. In the memory care, they're more regimented, and they are reminded that breakfast, lunch and dinner are being served.
The Oaks didn't have a swimming pool or a gym, and they're out in the middle of nowhere. It’s sort of like in a farmland, a funny location. It was actually very nice, but I'd never move there. The staff was excellent and the girl who gave us the tour was outstanding. The rooms were OK.
The Oaks is a new, beautiful community. It is very spacious with all upgraded features. There is plenty of room for special occasions to be held in major dining and living rooms. This community is in a very nice part of town, next to the a hospital, with easy access to major freeways. The staff is very friendly and makes everyone feel very comfortable.
