The Kensington has three types of living available--independent, assisted living, and memory care. It is a larger facility, with 150 units for independent living and assisted living. There are four different floor plan choices for these units. Each one has either a balcony or deck and a kitchenette with a full size refrigerator, microwave and small sink. The memory care unit has 14 rooms, housing two persons in each room.
There is an abundance of activities, e.g., shopping trips, various clubs, bible classes, games, a nightly movie and matinee on Tuesdays. There is a 20 person complimentary bus that takes residents to shopping, banking, the post office, medical appointments, and even tax preparation!
The Kensington is very clean, and the staff is extremely polite, professional, and have a positive attitude. In addition, there are beautiful gardens there, as well as a small exercise room. If residents are looking for a full scale gym experience, there are two gyms less than a half a mile away that offer discounts to the residents. The Kensington also has a chapel, that has services twice a week--one non-denominational, and one Catholic. There is also an on-site beauty salon that offers hair care, nail care and waxing. Pets--dogs under 25 pounds and cats are welcome there with no additional charge as long as the resident can attend to their pet's needs.
For dining, there is a nice dining room, with open seating. There are two daily dining entrée choices, as well as their everyday menu choices. Special dietary needs can be met. They are also able to accommodate residents with diabetes. There is also a small "café," where residents can help themselves 24/7 to light snacks and beverages.
The Kensington is conveniently located just off the freeway, close to area hotels, and is only a few miles from downtown Walnut Creek, which offers an abundance of upscale shopping and dining. In addition, there are two hospitals within 3 miles of the Kensington.
In sum, I would highly recommend the Kensington to any future resident.
Many choices to fit the needs and budget of any senior. Always cheerful staff engaging the residents make a positive environment. Residents seem to really care about each other as neighbors and participate in great selection of activities.
