Sunrise of Hermosa Beach was a really beautiful facility. Some of the rooms had ocean views. It's a very well-maintained and a really nice facility within a block of the beach. We looked at a one-bedroom apartment for my mother, and it actually had a bedroom, a living room, a kitchenette, and a bathroom all on the top floor, so it had an ocean view, but it was $2,000 higher a month. The residents we encountered did not appear to be very lively.
Sunrise of La Jolla was a much nicer facility and more expensive than other places. It was in a nice part of San Diego, and the second story had an ocean view. It's very nice on paper. Inside, it's very nicely decorated, with the interior designs all themed and matching. It's definitely an upscale community and staff. The highlight of our tour was when the female chef came out. She clearly does this with every guest and every resident and took a personal interest, got to know us, and asked us a little bit about my grandfather, my aunt's father. She was just very attentive and caring and was by far the standout of that particular facility.
We liked Sunrise of Yorba Linda. It seemed to have the most amenities and was probably a good fit. Their rooms seemed nice and adequate. They seemed to have different activities like arts and crafts and excursions. Their dining area seemed clean and sufficient.
Sunrise at Sterling Canyon was very nice. They didn't have any carport or garage, and I was kind of disappointed in that. I liked everything about it. The rooms were a little small. The dining area was good. The only thing I could think of for them to improve on was to have a carport or parking. To me, it would be a valuable aspect. The location was good on a very quiet street. It's a great place.
I have to rate Sunrise of Woodland Hills an A for excellent. It's a great place with very good food, nice people and staff, and all the activities that you want. It's a very good place. The only drawback is that the street can be busy. The surroundings are nice. It has a lot of places to see and a lot of things to do. The rooms are a little small. The food is like cuisine from a top of the line restaurant. The staff is excellent. It has very good treatment, very good tour, is very nice, and pleasant, and they called me back. I had a very good experience. I don't think they can improve on anything. The apartments seem a little expensive, but overall, it's pretty much worth the price. The location is not bad, but they could be in a slightly better location because they're right next to the freeway on Ventura Boulevard, which can be crowded and congested. Coming out of the garage and to the driveway can be a little tricky.
Sunrise at Alta Loma was a beautiful, well-kept facility in a beautiful location. It had amazing amenities and great care for seniors. The staff was incredibly helpful. Not only did they give us information regarding their facility, but they also facilitated information as a whole on what we would need to do to service my mom in the best way possible. The rooms were very spacious, well-kept, and impressive. Residents were served and had choices of what they wanted to eat. It was very well appointed. I would definitely highly recommend it.
We liked Sunrise's facility and the rooms that were available. The tour was good. We were able to see the facility and found out where it was and what it was like. The only thing that was left was the question of how the charges were going to be generated outside the normal fee.
Sunrise of Yorba Linda is just a relaxing and very comfortable place. The staff is very friendly, very professional, very nice, and very caring. They do a lot of stuff and a lot of day trips. My cousin likes the food there, and their dining area is very clean.
We chose Sunrise of Studio City. The staff is nice, understanding, and helpful. The people seem happy, and it seems like a happy place. They have lots of activities. The food is good. There is a kitchenette in every room and big windows and lots of lights. They have daily housekeeping and do their laundry for them. They take them on outings and to go shopping. It is a clean place in a very nice setting. My mom will move there in the next two weeks, hopefully.
Sunrise of Alta Loma was nice, and the people were very pleasant. I did not have a meal there, but their dining area was nice and rooms were adequate. I felt like it’s a comfortable place. They had movies and different local groups that come in. The staff was definitely good at answering my questions, so that was nice.
I really like Sunrise. The people there were very happy, smiling, and very friendly. It was a very warm and inviting community with a garden, lots of activities, and restaurant-style dining. The rooms were very clean and had balconies. The price was OK. It was the one that we felt had the most home-like atmosphere as it felt more comfortable and very homey. Everybody was together, knew each other, were warm, and talked to each other. The staff was very caring and helpful. My mom really wants to move there. The financial committee is not very good in getting back when you have questions; that part was a little confusing to me. We are trying to figure out how much the monthly bill would be, so we called and they didn’t get back to me. The parking lot situation is a bit difficult. Sometimes they have activities, and the people don’t come. My mom and dad are good with the food because mostly it’s good.
The staff at Sunrise at Sterling Canyon was a fantastic place, but the layout would not fit my mother-in-law. They had different activities going on for the residents. I did not see any resident there looking miserable.
I visited Sunrise. It was clean, and they have a dining room downstairs. I’ve met the head nurse who said they go around and keep track of them. The sales people were very nice. They have bingo, go places, and do doctors' appointments. It was very nice in there.
Sunrise of Mission Viejo was a lovely place and a small community. The people were very happy. The rooms were small, and for me and my husband to live in them, it would have been very tight. I don’t think it would have been something that we would have chosen, but it was lovely. When we were there, they were having fun playing bingo, which is not quite what we do. It’s a very small place and without any particular amenities that we noticed. The dining room was lovely but very small. There was really nowhere to walk. It was a nice, little place. If I were by myself and older, I might have chosen it.
Sunrise of Hermosa Beach was very nice. The residents appeared happy to be there since they weren’t just playing Bingo but were socializing much themselves. They had a house dog and a house bird, which my mother would have loved, and all of the staff seemed very friendly. There was a nice, casual feel to the place. The rooms and apartments were well appointed but small and didn't have much storage, so we were going to have to reduce quite a bit. The location was very convenient to me. It’s off Coast Highway, which is a busy highway, so getting in and out of the parking is challenging. Parking wasn’t well marked when I first visited. There’s plenty of parking around the back, but it said “Residents Only” and I didn’t realize there were spots back there until the staff told me.
I liked the staff at Sunrise of La Jolla (Sunrise of Pacific Beach). The place itself was very welcoming and had a grand staircase, which I really liked. The people that greeted us and sat in with us were very nice. I liked that place a lot. That was the one I thought I would end up going to for my husband.
Sunrise of Belmont gets 5 stars. It was a very nice place and comparable to the other facility I saw. The food looked good. The only thing that gets a 3 rating is the pricing because they’re $2,000 more than anywhere else. It's a nice place but pricey. If I had to put my mother in there, I would.
The rooms at Sunrise were nice. The lighting was a little muted and dark, but the staff was nice. I liked that they accepted pets because my parents had dogs. However, at that time, they did not have memory care rooms available.
The facility of Sunrise of Belmont is a 5+ rating. It's like a hotel and is absolutely beautiful. The staff seems real good, and the residents seem to be more able-bodied. When I become older, that's the place I'd like to go. The dining area is beautiful, like a hotel restaurant. The sales people we talked to were very nice and positive. I have no reason to think it's not a fine place.
I visited Sunrise of Studio City for consideration for my mom. The staff was very good and professional. I didn't have any problems at all. We have considered them for quite a long time after our experience with another family member who lived at Sunrise before. I know the quality of their care but felt that the physical environment would be overwhelming for my mom. The living quarters were a bit nicer than what she had at the other facility, and the entire facility was more well kept and fancier. I would say it’s like a hotel.
