Daystar Retirement Village is located in a great location in West Seattle, close to the Westwood Village shopping center and all the great things to do and see in and around the area. It could benefit to have more parking for visitors.
The grounds were well kept and the garden area is beautiful, I walked the walking trail with my resident it was a nice area for her to walk her dog.
There was a good selection of activities; something for everyone from crafts they were crafting it looked to be decoupage. There was a couple playing pool. She took me to the library area which is her favorite there were a lot of older books, would be nice to see some newer ones but still a good selection. She is learning to use the computer and navigate the internet; she spends a lot of time on the computer.
I was impressed with their dining areas; there are several options for the residents to dine outside of their living area. The dining room was nice; the tea room was a nice touch they had The food menu was good and had a good selection to choose from. I ate lunch and had the Chinese Chicken Salad it was actually pretty good. There is an outdoor terrace you can dine on and a tea room that was a lovely touch. The juice machine and coffee machine was a nice touch and convenient for the residents. She loves the beauty salon and has even started getting pedicures, this little things that Daystar offers the residents really makes a big difference.
The staff is the very best and very attentive. They called every resident by first name and my resident talked highly of staff. I do see a lot of effort to get residents to mingle and socialize, There was some kind of fieldtrip or something happening on one of my visits there was a bunch of school age kids visiting, whatever the reason the residents adored the kiddos.
My resident has a lovely one bedroom apartment and is independent, it is nice that if the time comes that she needs more assistance with her daily care there are several assisted living options at Daystar for her.
Village Green is a lovely facility in Federal Way where seniors can enjoy an independent lifestyle while feeling safe and secure. This facility offers all the comforts of home.
The apartments are spacious and come with a washer and dryer. My resident I visit apartment is very nice and perfect size for one person. There are activities to keep residents busy; one of my favorites when I visit is the woodworking shop. It is very popular among the residents. The computer room has all the update to date equipment and when I am there I always see it being used. There is a pool they were doing water aerobics when I was there last the atmosphere is so inviting and relaxing, the movie room is a great room and nicely furnished, the library was incredible, I saw some reading, but the ladies were knitting.
They have an amazing juice bar and the dining area was cozy. They have tailored their fitness program to meet the needs of each resident from water exercise, massage therapy; chair exercise for those with limited movement to walking activities to name just a few Staff provides blood pressure checks and monitors abilities and limitations for each resident, how beneficial and awesome.
My resident can’t get out much and she loves she can partake in Bible study groups, chapel services, and transportation to local churches for those who wish to worship at their churches. What an excellent support for seniors and something you don't see too often.
The staff is caring and supportive, my resident fell and they took the upmost care of her and kept me posted if she needed anything.
They have a full calendar of events and activities both on-site and outings for residents the calendar is repetitive but still a good selection of things to do. A downside is they only provide dinner to residents; it would be nice if they offered three meals a day. Overall this is a good facility clean and plenty for residents to do.
The staff is attentive and caring. The outdoor areas are nice for residents and plenty of areas for them to walk their dogs and enjoy the outdoors. It would be nice if they offered more than just dinner.
My father chose Daystar for his assisted living apartment, and has been really happy with everything about his move. The staff and residents have been friendly, welcoming, and helpful. The buildings and grounds are warm and homey. He is trying out some new activities and has so far been pleased. He is still getting used to someone else doing all the cooking and cleaning! I am so happy that he is happy... and safe!
