Facility: The Stratford is an outstanding community offering Assisted Living, Memory Care, and Respite Care. The community is gorgeous. Always so clean and even though it’s a large facility, it feels intimately designed and cozy. The living room is always filled with residents and visitors. I love how perfectly lit the facility is – I have seen communities that are lit way too brightly and some that are lit very dimly – but the Stratford is lit just right for any activity, whether it be reading the newspaper, socializing, knitting, or playing cards. The furniture throughout the common areas is also very comfortable. There are cute little nooks and sitting areas throughout the facility and it is decorated beautifully – I always see residents just out for a walk around the community, simply admiring all of the sights – there is beautiful artwork, a fish tank, beautiful houseplants, and interesting décor. You could take a walk around the facility every day and always notice something new that you have never noticed before.
The Memory Care unit is very creatively decorated while remaining secure. There are wall murals that represent a town square type motif that is used to stimulate the memories and senses of the memory care residents. The unit also has a very secure outdoor patio area so that the memory care residents can still enjoy the fresh outdoors without putting themselves at risk.
Activities: There are so many scheduled activities and events as well as different anytime options to keep the residents active and entertained. They have a great game room with a pool table and computer area, TV’s throughout to watch, social areas, and more.
Food: The food service is always wonderful at The Stratford, in fact they have won awards for the exceptional service. The food service team are always adding new and exciting menu options and they are great at accommodating resident requests. The dining room is beautiful with a piano which is often used for entertainment.
5 Stars all around! My 86 year old mother came to AZ for a visit and through a series of events is now living in The Montecito's Assisted Living Community. I did an extensive and exhaustive search of many communities in and around Sun City, Glendale and Peoria. Though I found several good campuses, none had quite the feel and graciousness of The Montecito. The management has highest standards of safety, cleanliness, friendliness and attends to every detail in my mother's care. I (and my picky mom) have found all staff caring, compassionate, knowledgeable and helpful; this includes the health, maintenance, housekeeping, kitchen and dining room, activities, and business/management teams. Don't let the intake paperwork overwhelm you! Fill it out completely and the entire staff goes from there. They know the residents by name and preferences, truly look at them, interact humorously and keep health and safety in the forefront of each resident's life. Mom's 1 bedroom apartment is spacious, bright and spotless. My mom can be as independent as she needs to be with the 3 daily visual checks, med management, 3 delicious meals. She enjoys the restaurant feel of fine dining and the attentive serving staff. The servers encourage residents to try a varied menu and pay attention to what residents are choosing. Housekeeping is provided once a week and the apartment is cleaned, linens changed, laundry done... all with a smile and friendly communication. She has her own full sized washer and dryer located in her apartment. A new feature is MD24 House Call medical group located onsite, in The Montecito's Wellness Center. The physicians come to the residents. I believe they now have: Internist, opthamologist, psychiatrist, neurologist, cardiologist as well as a full lab and they schedule appointments so your time visiting your loved one is not spent driving to doctor appointments all over town. (I'm learning more about this and will post again as Mom uses the service. Yet, so far, her doctor has been present, friendly and supportive.) There is a clean exercise room where residents can continue their physical therapy on their own or with the assistance of their Home Health Care provider. A library, chapel, beauty salon, game rooms, card tables, pool table, heated pool and spa, patio, upstairs deck and movie theatre with vibrating individual speaker controlled chairs and level concrete walking paths that meander through the 11 acre property are a few of the amenities we've seen and enjoyed. We love the little courtyards and fountains scattered throughout to sit and enjoy the beautiful AZ weather. The activities are set up to promote resident interaction with each other. Aromatherapy, movies, happy hour, meet and greets, shopping trips, local excursions, guest speakers, and special events fill the monthly calendar. The spacious and grand foyer is as welcoming as the receptionists who also know the residents & families, activities and keep an eye on the 'goings on' of the community. If anything, The Montecito is overstaffed (which I hope they never change) with happy competent people and a calm, consistent feeling of well-being. I truly feel my mom has come home.
The Stratford is simply the BEST senior living facility my family has encountered in the Phoenix AZ area. We have had opportunity to interact with several in the last 10 years. They have escorted activities off campus where residents sign up to go with the activities staff on bus as well as a theater group and restaurant outings. They have frequent special events & celebrations to include family and friends. Their newsletter, website and family online portal keeps family and community informed of menues, movies, calendar, etc. The facility is immaculate and beautiful. My dad used to say he felt like he had "arrived" in life. He passed away in 2009 but my mother continues to live there. They always had champagne taste but beer pocket book. The staff is so gracious and understanding with the challenges that elderly residents can present (no fault of their own), including my mother. I can not speak highly enough for all the staff in this regards. They really go above and beyond and always with patience and understanding. This includes caregivers, housekeeping, maintenance, dining, activities, administrative, vertually every department.
The dining room is comfortable and very accomodating. You can order off the standard menu any time or enjoy the one of the 2 specials of the day during specified hours. If you don't see what you want, you can just ask and they will serve it if able. Our family wanted to have a get together for my mom and the dining room set a room with tables, linens and hot & cold drinks for us. They were even willing to provide food (for a very reasonable fee) but we brought food in instead. Then they did the clean up, again with patience and grace. Our family would be thrilled to see The Stratford win this due award. They have a very worthy mission and they do it unbelievably well.
ACTIVITIES: The Stratford schedules activites both internal to the facility and external in the community. My family member that lives at the Stratford has serious hearing and vision conditions and tends not to participate fully. This is not due to a lack of effort on the part of the care staff who are always encouraging my mother to participate. She did at one time participate in a program called Passages which is designed for residents with some limitations but has ceased to participate because she had such a hard time hearing and seeing what was happening. Again, staff made real efforts to involve her and it was her choice to back away. Stratford does offer a music program most Thursdays and my mother does enjoy the nostalgic music that the entertainers feature. It reminds her of her youth.
FACILITY: My mother and I greatly appreciate the lovely furnishings and general level of cleanliness. It seems to make her feel good simply to be surrounded with beautiful things. She lives in a one-bedroom apartment that has ample room for her to display her prize possessions, her art work, and her sculpture. Again, as above, it seems to make her feel good simply to be able to display and live with her "things" I believe that the Stratford is very aware of the therapeutic value of being able to display a lifetime's worth of possessions. Regarding accommodations, the facility staff is always available to help put together an accommodation once they have been made to understand what is needed. My mother's vision and hearing problems as well as serious arthritis make her a candidate for special facility considerations.
FOOD: My mother is very pleased with the food, the flexible dining hours, the selection, and the friendly attitude of the food preparation and serving staff. There is always something on the menu that she likes and is willing to eat.
QUALITY OF CARE and PROFESSIONALISM OF STAFF: The care is such that I was able to separate my mother from her previous providers, eliminating the need for long automobile rides for simple appointments. I am not always aware of prophylactic services but am generally informed of anything significant very quickly. If I feel that I need information or explanation, I have ready access to care staff and supervisors.Care staff seem to know my mother very well, are aware of her tendency to isolate, and make a point of talking with her and encouraging her.The staff seem to have a universal good attitude and it is infectious in that when dealing with pleasant, responsive people, my mother seems to feel much better.I consider the design of their care system to be extremely good. Assisted living available as needed with an ultimate path into the memory unit should it be required. In my mother's case, it may be a necessary transition and not needing to move to a completely new facility ("black hole") is very important to me.
OVERALL: The Stratford deserves recognition for the infrastructure of care and assisted living that they have created. The living is comfortable, there is a serious effort to plan activities that are interesting and beneficial. There is a real effort to keep a positive ambiance that is successful and that is clearly therapeutic. I would recommend the facility to anyone and frequently do so.
Every time that I visit my mother-in-law at her home, The Stratford, there is a feeling that it is indeed her home as she knows it, a place where at this time in her life she feels safe and that allows the children, grandchildren and great grandchilden to also feel safe every day. The environment is extraordinarily comfortable and there is plenty of room to find a quiet place to be or places where you can find 'friends' to visit with. The staff is equally extraordinary and they seem truly interested in the well-being of my mother-in-law as well as all other residents. You do get the feeling that they like everyone and care about everyone:) Our family loves The Stratford!
The activities appear to be more than adequate. The facilities and amenities have clean appearance and freshness to them. The food has a good selection and very helpful service. The facility of care - help is always available. The staff is always ready to please with kindness. They show professionalism in their appearance and approach to people and situations. Overall I am happy with their honest straight forward manner, and the clean open style of the building. The fact that the resident is able to go through their different stages of health in their own apartment eliminates any extra confusion..
My mother has been at the Stratford for at least five years. On every single occasion that I have visited the home, I have been impressed with the employees smiles and information. If I cannot find my mom, they'll have her found within a couple minutes. There are pictures on the walls(this creates a less sterile enviroment). there is a small quaint library, billiard rooms, a very large television in a large common room, an ice cream parlor and hair specialists you can make an appointment with every week. I will end by saying my family will never allow my mom to live anywhere else. Her constant care by Stratford employees is a God send.
The care at the Stratford for my parents has been EXCELLENT. We moved my parents to the Stratford due to problems at another elderly community that we had watched deteriorate after a few buyouts took place. Each buyout brought more cuts to service and the decision to move them to the Stratford was one in which we did a lot of study of other facilities first. The Stratford stood out for several reasons. They had undrestanding staff and the environment was very immaculate and very enviting. Actually, it is oppulant. The curb had a drive thru to the door that was easy to navigate with handicapped persons. And because the Stratford is built up, not a sprawling complex, we no longer had to choose between exiting in a handicapped space and walking forever to get to their building, or approaching their buidling with the car and encounter no handicapped space and helping them over a curb. This showed to me that the Stratford was well thought out when it was built. The halls of the stratford have small cozy areas for the residentz to play games, watch the fish swim in a fish tank, or do puzzles. The layout of the building is such that all of the appartments are a very short distance to the elevator, making it easier on my parents. When my father passed away, the company was very accomodating for moving my mother to another apartment that fit her budget. My mother has dementia and the staff has been very undrestanding in handling her during her negative episodes. One of the comforts to me about the Stratford is that the place seems to be geared to those that are older and go through the Daily struggles that octagenarians go through physically, yet the environment is more apartment related even at their age, which is nice. This seems to be a hard combination for other facilities to make happen. I have had a meal twice with my mother at the Stratford, and the food was good. We have recently began comparing budgets of other places as my mothers care costs are going up as she gets older, and yet the Stratford was still reasonably prices for the same kind of care at other facilities. And to be honest, even the top rated facilities are not as nice an environment as the Stratford.
THE STRATFORD IS A BEAUTIFUL PLACE TO LIVE VERY VERY CLEAN AND THE FURNISHINGS IN THE LOBBYS ARE THE BEST. WHEN MY MOTHER HAS GUESTS SHE CAN TAKE THEM TO THE LOBBY AREA AND HAVE A CUP OF COFFEE AND A COOKIE, WATCH THE MOVIES THAT ARE ALWAYS PLAYING ON THE TV THERE. THE DINNING ROOM IS VERY LOVLEY, ALWAYS NICLY SET TABLES THE STAFF ALL KNOW HER AND WHAT SHE WANTS TO EAT. SHE LIKES THAT THEY ALL CALL HER BY NAME WHEN THEY COME TO THE TABLE, THERE ARE SO MANY PLACES FOR HER TO GO...SHE CAN EVEN FIND A PLACE IN THE SUN AND SET AND WATCH THE WORLD GO BY.
WHEN SHE DOES GET SICK THEY ARE THERE WATCHING OVER HER AND GO IN AND CHECK ON HER THRU THE NIGHT TO KEEP ME INFORMED OF HOW SHE IS DOING...THE NURSE IS VERY CAPEABLE AND SEEM TRULY HAPPY IN GREETING ME WHEN WE MEET IN THE HALL'S. I WOULDNT THINK OF GOING ANYWHERE ELSE FOR HER CARE.
The Stratford has a full calendar of events published every month with lots of options for residents. Regularly scheduled shuttle buses provide transportation to area grocery/banking and shopping areas. Special events related to religious or other special days (e.g. St Patricks day) are sprinkled in as well.
The residence is immaculate with staff available at all hours to service urgent requests. An atrium for quiet reflection and reading is available as well as a monitored work out facility for physio, exercise, strength and stamina building.
The dining room provides multiple options at all meals and is open to special requests to meet either specific dietary needs or ad-hoc requests.
I live remote to the facility so I rely on the healthcare specialists at the Strafford to meet my mom's needs. Access to nursing support, attendant care, and even regular dental service is available. Shuttle service (with or without accompaniment is available for doctor visits and dental procedures. If anything ever crops up, I know I will be called or e-mailed promptly and informed of the situation.
The staff have all been professional, friendly, responsive, and supportive of both my mom's needs and mine as well. The lines of communication are always open, and I never feel like I am being ignored. When I am contacted, I can rely on a clear statement of any issue, an outlining of relevant options, and a willingness to share recommendations (and rationale) for moving forward.
I have no qualms with the level of service provided at the Stratford as it continues to exceed my expectations at every level. The best part of all is that my mom is happy too!
The staff at THE STRATFORD is friendly, outgoing and sensitive to the needs of residents and their families. Upon the passing of my mother-in-law, the staff went out of their way to express their sorrow - and that was after only a week of moving in. Since then, they have continued to show the same sincerity in dealing with my father-in-law. The dining staff is accommodating and the food hot and 'tasty!' They know my father-in-law's likes and dislikes and accommodate his needs. They welcome outside visitors and make us feel equally 'at home!' When I'm not available to transport him to medical appointments, drivers have actually waited until the appointment is over to bring him back vs. just having him call when done.
Beautiful & peaceful environment. Very patient to date with my mother's onset of Alzheimer's and the difficulty that she has presented to them fairly regularly. To be completely fair, I would have liked to be able to give a half star. This facility and their staff are really the best; respectful, professional, skilled and kind. The evening meal is very nicely done in a very nice environment where all staff call each resident by their first name at every meal. They are very relational with their residents. I really think they deserve 4 1/2 stars.
