Our tour of Bickford of Raytown was very good. The director was just an excellent and fantastic lady. You fell in love with her from the start. It would be a good choice. It was a bit smaller. The problem was that it didn't have Medicare bids or the full continuum of care that we needed. They had a full schedule of different activities for the residents, plus a community rooms, TV, movies, crafts, and exercise classes. The grounds were very nice. The assisted living was on the second floor. Each of the units had a picture window into the hallway.
Bickford of Bourbonnais was very expensive and self pay. They have a laundry facility on the first floor that was kind of small. The staff was friendly. It was just way too much money for what you get. The rooms and apartments were spacious and had their own stove and refrigerator in them. If you lived on the second floor, the laundry facility isn't really accessible. The grounds were kind of small, and the layout's OK. It was really hard to find, too. It's one big apartment building with the dining room downstairs and apartments surrounding it.
Bickford of Marietta has a very homey feel to it, and they’re very much like family and very attentive. There is excellent food, which is a big thing for my mother-in-law, and it’s very convenient to where we live, so we can drop by every day to see her. They have a very good menu. The chef is very attentive and comes out to talk to them. He serves full-course meals, and the food is delicious and has good variety, so she cleans her plate at every meal. She is kind of picky, so it has to be well prepared or she wouldn’t eat it. They seem to have more activities planned than the other ones that we looked at. They typically have five activities every day for the memory care residents, so there’s something going on all the time.
My husband was at the Bickford, which was very nice other than it was a little dark inside. The staff was good, and the food was excellent. I was impressed with the fact that they really tried to get people involved in activities, were on top of medications, and kept track of health concerns.
Bickford of Okemos is a nice place. It had a memory unit in the building in a separate wing, but it didn’t seem like they would be able to keep my parents together. My dad would be in one part of the building and my mother in another. They had an apartment where there was a separate bedroom in the living area, but because of the way the building was constructed, one of the rooms didn't have outdoor lighting. When you walk into the living room off the hallway, there'd be a doorway into the bedroom, so the living room didn't have natural lighting, so it felt a little dreary in that respect. The facility seemed a little bit dated to me. They had a very good, qualified staff, and everyone seemed like they knew what they were doing.
We have been overly impressed with Bickford. The staff and facilty has been wonderful. We brought my father in with the goal to be able to return home after regaining his strength. He was very weak and had no appetite he never had a bad meal, the food was exceptional. I can't say enough about the staff and the level of overall care they provided. Our goal was achieved and my father will be going home. We will miss the friendly staff and family at Bickford.
This community was previously owned by Trinity Lifestyles Management and was purchased by Bickford a couple of years ago. The building is older but is very clean and well decorated. I was unable to see a meal or activity but there was public menu for the meals being served that day and an activity calendar posted in a public location that had a lot of options. The staff are all new and unique to Bickford. Bickford is a newer senior living managing entity in Metro Atlanta and is a much smaller company which can be a pro and a con when it comes to management and resources for resident care and staffing.
New and clean home like atmosphere. Friendly staff that's more than willing to assist you. Nurses take care of any issues that arise immediately. There's always something fun going on to get into. My mom is always chatting with a group of friends when I come in to visit her. We're very happy.
