Overall, we were very positive about White Sands La Jolla. The only negative for us is you have to buy in. It's in a really nice location on the beach. The person there was very helpful and described everything in detail and asked us to call back any time we want to visit again. There's plenty of activities, and you can walk out onto the beach. The food was very good, and the restaurant was very nice. They had a buffet and a salad bar, and you can order off a menu.
We visited Regents Point. It was too large for us but very nice. We thought that the housing was a little dated. Other than that, it seemed very nice and complete. The dining areas were lovely, and certainly the view and the fact that it is next to the park was very nice. It was a very nice facility, but for us, it was not right. The staff was very nice and very pleasant.
White Sands La Jolla had a pretty view. It looked clean and acceptable. The staff was very polite, professional, and were doing their jobs. They had singing and movies, a variety of games, and activities like that. There's a posted schedule and always something for them to do. The rooms were small. In the nursing facility, they had a two-bedroom, two-bathroom room at a reasonable price. It's a huge facility with apartments. The community has all levels from people in a nursing home to people who are completely independent and have their own apartments. It looked clean and neat. I did not have any complaints.
My son and I were received with warmth and welcome and provided with both a tour and lunch. Our lunch-mates included the head of the residents' organization who is very enthusiastic about the community and more than willing to answer any questions we might have. Staff and residents alike were quite friendly. The staff to resident ratio is very, very high. The apartments are pleasant but there are no full kitchens or balconies, amenities that have strong personal appeal.
White Sands La Jolla truly feels like a five star resort. This facility has all the amenities you’d expect of a resort too including a fitness center, nice spas and pools and plenty of recreational space to socialize or entertain. White Sands La Jolla also has an unbeatable location as its right along the beach which allows residents to have the perfect view of the crashing waves of the ocean. You can also hear the ocean from some parts of the facility and see the ocean while sitting in the pool area. This facility certainly has all the bells and whistles of normal facilities and a special five-star resort feel that make it one of a kind. Another plus of this facility is that it's located across the road from Chateau La Jolla Inn, a hotel, making it easy for friends and family to pay residents a visit.
Redwood Terrace is a facility with a surprising amount of amenities. There are special classes such as Tai Chi and Woodworking. There is also an indoor pool with a ramp on property and an abundance of walking trails and pathways. There are great outdoor areas at this facility as well as patios and terraces. Redwood Terrace isn’t the most modern facility but it certainly makes up for it by offering amazing amenities and plenty of activities. One of the only things I did not like about this facility was how crowded the dining hall tends to get during meal hours. The tables are very close together as well which likely adds to this crowded appearance. However, this is an issue that can easily be remedied.
My husband and I chose Royal Oaks in the beginning because of the three levels of care, the spacious tree-filled grounds, the helpfulness of the marketing director(including a home visit to meet our dog!), and the two visits we had,one for dinner and one for lunch.During those visits we were introduced to physicians who lived here already..Since moving in we have joined(one of us or both of us): the walking group, the men's group, the chorale and the acorn room volunteer staff. After three months we feel very much at home after three months and it was a good decision to come here.
I have been a resident of Royal Oaks for the past 13 years - what a wonderful alternative to caring for my home in Whittier - with all the frustration of repairing, painting, dealing with leaves after the gardener had been there, - dragging out the huge trash barrels, and loneliness when your spouse is gone. There have been countless things to be thankful for, especially the friendships that become your extended family; transportation when you no longer are able to drive, and our wonderful caring staff. This place meets the definition of the phrase "hidden gem". If you didn't know where to go you would likely never come across it because it is definitely off the beaten path, but once you have found it you will never forget it. On all levels this is a beautiful place and even if you don't intend to live there it is worth visiting just to see what they have.
I have visited this community a couple of times and each time I was struck by how much I felt a sense of caring from every person I interacted with. The grounds are well kept and very peaceful. I haven't had a lot of exposure to the food, but what little I had I liked. This is definitely a place which you can feel comfortable having a family member live.
State of the art community offering all levels of care including memory care. They have apartments and cottages where many overlook parkland. They recently renovated their dining and reception area and is one of the most attractive anywhere. Staff is warm and welcoming.
For those who can afford the nicer things that life has to offer, this is it. The location says it all. Anyone who grew up near water can truly appreciate the beauty of this property. I was visiting a friend who had only a few days to live and when I walked in her room, the window coverings were wide open and the crashing waves on the shore would be her last memory of earth. I thought "what a heavenly feeling" and a very spiritual moment. I learned this room was reserved for those in their last days as it had the best view in the community.
I love the gorgeous apartment style, living spaces. The design is award winning. Located near downtown La Jolla, it is a happening place to live when you want to leave your gorgeous accommodations. The care is wonderful. The best nurses and everyone is so well trained and enjoys their work. This is a place where residence will start talking about how much they love living here. It seems they look forward to the years of aging ahead of them.
Facility is clean and well-maintained. There is a selection of room sizes. Staff keeps themselves busy and visible if any needs arise. Front desk always knowledgeable and helpful. Pleasant surroundings.
Beautiful grounds and great variety of care levels. Some buildings are older but kept up. Newer rooms are well done. Nice sense of community -probably stems from origin but has made itself a place for anyone. Administrators seem to really care.
Royal Oaks has absolutely beautiful grounds, top-notch facilities and great variety of programs. The staff is friendly and attentive in all the different areas of care. It has the feel of a very expensive exclusive resort but residents tell me they are happy with the expense/value ratio. New residents receive welcome and I've been impressed with efforts to make units comfortable and convenient with some personal touches. I like that various options of care levels so if needs change, its just a small relocation within the property, not having to leave.
I live at Royal Oaks and can recommend it without qualification. It doesn't get much better than this, and I reviewed other senior facilities . Some reviews say "very expensive" but I find it less than my home. Food - variety, quality - excellent. Best of all -- it is total stress-free living!
