Joan’s Journey: Southern California Reflections

Joan London’s latest post on her search for senior housing is here!  Joan discusses her recent trip to the “Valley” to visit her son and look for senior housing. During this trip, she visited numerous Senior Living Communities.  At each community she enjoyed making new friends, tasting the cuisine, and investigating whether the community had the features she is looking for. She returned to Baltimore excited about a possible first choice facility, and spoke about it in her recent post.

Top Two Things Joan’s Learned So Far

Joan reflected on her experiences thus far and wrote down a couple tips to help other people who are searching for senior housing.  Here are two of things she talks about in her lastest post.

1. Researching online with a website like SeniorHomes.com saves a great deal of time and unnecessary travel by pre-identifying senior housing that meets one’s criteria.

2. Personally visiting or sending a trusted representative to tour the pre-identified communities is a must. The ambience, enjoying a meal with residents, exploring apartments and facilities, and experiencing firsthand the friendliness of the staff, shines through on a visit. If family is available, bring them along for input. Ask if overnight stays are available at your top choices. Brochures, websites and counselors are excellent, time-saving methods to begin your search, but visits provide needed information on the quality of life one is seeking.

  1. Several good tiPs in this blog; especially the one about the Independent living facIlity that is not ADAA compliant. Who is that handsome youngster with the goat? I’m guessing your final answer is the facility you visited on the “wrong” side of the city of angels.

  2. Marcia Freedman says:

    Thanks for the good hints.
