Texas’ STAR+PLUS is the state’s Medicaid managed care program. It’s specifically designed for residents of Texas who are living with disabilities and those who are aged 65 or older. The program covers a range of services including assisted living or home care, access to medical care, case management and social support.
Senior applicants of this program must be 65 years of age or older and reside in Texas. They must also fall under one of the following categories:
- Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients
- Eligible for the STAR+PLUS Home and Community Based Services waiver
- Medicaid recipients accessing the program through a Social Security exclusion program
- Seniors residing in a nursing home while receiving Medicaid
- Those enrolled in Medicaid’s Breast and Cervical Cancer program
It’s also necessary for applicants to require full-time support and assistance with daily living or to require full-time medical supervision. To be approved for the STAR+PLUS program, seniors must also meet the financial eligibility requirements of the program, as follows:
- Individual income may not exceed $750 per month
- Individual assets may not exceed a value of $2,000, excluding the applicant’s home
