Quality Of Care
I stayed in a guest suite at Van Mall. The apartment was spacious and comfortable, the food was good, and the staff went out of their way to make sure I was comfortable and had everything I needed. The activities calendar was very impressive, and all of the residents I met seemed very happy and content. the staff were all smiling and seemed to enjoy their work. Overall a fantastic experience. Highly recommended.
We toured several buildings when looking my grandfather-in-law's new home. Van Mall stood out for several reasons, not the least being the warm atmosphere. It was the ONE community that was respectful of our resistence to the "hard sell" and gave us the space to both breathe and think before making this big decision. This was greatly appreciated during a very stressful time. Bad timing saw that we had to move in late on New Year's Eve, in a rainstorm, with a semi truck that blocked the employee parking lot. Still, we were met with warm smiles and helping hands.
From the day we moved my grandfather-in-law in to Van Mall, until the he had to move (due to needing 24 hour nursing care), we were made to feel as if his well being was their biggest concern. We will always be grateful.
When looking for retirement and assisted living community for our parents several years ago my sisters visited over a dozen different communities before choosing Van Mall. While a beautiful community it was not the newest but sure is amazing. The staff is friendly and helpful. The apartments are large, and the food is great. Most important for us was that they could live together still in a large two bedroom apartment while getting outstanding assisted living care.
Every year they just get better and better and the great thing is that most of the staff have worked there for more than five years.
We highly recommend you check them out. Mom and Dad love it there.
When I moved into this community it was to be a retirement center with assisted living. Now there are so many skooter, wheel chairs and walkers that I feel it is a nursing home. I do not use assistance or have trouble with memory. We need more people with independence & not so many assistance residents. Some excursions are to expensive. $80
We chose Van Mall after touring seven other like facilities in the area. Upon entering Van Mall we felt that there was a feeling of home and the staff was very friendly and helpful. Mom has been there two months and we have no complaints. The food is great, many activities to participate in and the staff recognizes the residents with their name.
Looking for a place for Mom was my first experience with checking out assisted living communities in the Vancouver area. After visiting a number of them we returned to Van Mall a second and then a third time because we were so impressed by how much more comfortable it felt overall than the other communities we visited.
What has struck me most since Mom moved in nearly five years ago is that many of the staff have been there longer than Mom, which says to me they are not only good to the residents but they are good to their staff as well. Happy caregivers mean a happy Mom!!
Living out of town makes it difficult to help care for a loved one, but knowing the support and loving care everyone at Van Mall provides to my mother allows me the comfort of knowing she is safe and happy.
The food at Van Mall is wonderful. They have so many fun things to do. Everyone is friend and personal. The building is clean and hallways are very wide. There is an atmosphere of love and care throughout the building. I would recommend this community to anyone who wants a lively home for their parent.
Van Mall is a beautifully decorated and homey comfortable residence..my father has lived there for 6+ years and loves it. The staff is caring and friendly to everyone including the resident's families and visitors. Van Mall goes all out for the holidays; decorations, food, music..they encourage all to attend the festivities. Many activities are offered each day.A beauty salon is on site; libraries are scattered throughout;classes are available onsite and there is a gym to work out..A wonderful dining staff and nursing staff.. Accomodating is the norm at Van Mall;they will do anything to help someone. I highly recommend Van Mall.
Kind and caring staff. Friendly atmosphere considerate and respectfull. I can relax knowing if I am away my father s in good hands. His needs being met and in a patient manner. His unit cleaned, his meals well planned and prepared, his safety assured and he is treated with respect.
My mother has been living at VMall going on 3 years. While moving from one's home is a difficult transition, my mother has adapted well at VMall. She calls this her home now. I am most confident with VMall's general manager, Bill Hess. He has been so helpful and participative regarding my mother's care. I feel as though I can make contact with him at any time and get direction and/or answers as needed. In my opinion, he is a key factor in the overall success of this facility.
The facility has nice wide hallways and many places to stop and rest. The lighting is good and uplifting as well as the coloring on the walls. The food is good and dining times are not limited. Staff is friendly and very personable.
When it became apparent that our mom was not able to care for herself anymore, we visited many assisted living facilities in the Vancouver, WA area. All of them were very nice but Van Mall Retirement Center felt like a "home" and not a hotel or an inn. Have to admit that mom was moved kicking and screaming but after a few weeks she asked, "what took us so long?" She's been a resident there for 18 months now and calls it home. The staff knows everyone by name and moves quickly to assist not just the residents but visiting family and friends.
We know there are many Retirement Homes in the area But Van Mall Retirement has many features that other Communities do not offer. Giving up one's home is not an easy decision to make but moving to Van Mall was the right one for us. Not only are we still living independently but when the time arrives that we need Assisted Living Care we will not be required to move to another apartment.
We enjoy our meals (from two full menus, one changed weekly in the lovely dining room, served by delightful, helpful young people. There are activities galore-games, music, Library, exercise, classes too numerous to mention (most free) plus outings on a weekly basis. Transportation is provided on scheduled days for appointments or shopping. The attitude of the dedicated staff let us feel as though we are in our own home.
My mother has been a resident of Van Mall for three years now. I live out of town and I was very careful in picking the right facility for my mom. Van Mall has exceeded all my expectations of what senior living is all about. My mom is well cared for and she loves the food. From management to the staff everyone is very competent, helpful and friendly. Very rarely do I rate anything 5 stars but Van Mall has my vote.
I visited this community when looking for a place for my then 86 year old friend who needed to move out of his apartment because he was no longer driving. The staff was friendly and took me on a tour. I knew he needed to come visit.
We went back and had lunch and asked a lot of questions and then went to see some of the rooms available. He liked it and said that he would like to live there.
Four years later (he just turned 90) Van Mall Retirement is his home. He loves coming down for the good meals and that he has a choice in deciding what he wants to eat(no cooking for him). Everyone knows who he is and he knows everyone. He is taken to the store and to his doctors appointments (sometimes by car or by bus)and the staff takes good care of him on these outings They make sure he gets where he needs to be on time and are most often waitng for him when he needs to be picked up. He tells me about who comes to entertain and the kind of music, which he enjoys listening to. He does a little daily exercise there and he walks on the grounds (which are always immaculate)and enjoys church services on Sunday. When I go to visit or pick him up one of the staff is there to welcome you and the visual you see when coming in is pleasant and soothing.
I spend enough time at Van Mall Retirement to give the five stars in all the areas above. If that wasn't enough I feel you would get those same stars from my 90 year old friend.
What better a compliment could be given to Van Mall Retirement than for him to tell you that it is now his home.
Leona lived in this very comfortable community for three years. During this time, she was always treated with respect and kindness. The staff here was always ready to help her. As her children, we were always greeted very nicely and also treated with respect and kindness.
The VAN MALL offers many activities outside of the community and inside the community.
The Van Mall Retirement center is very clean and SMELLS nice inside the building. They are always making sure the place stays clean.
All of the staff should be commended for their concern of the residents.
When times got tough for Leona, the Staff at the Van Mall went out of their way to make her comfortable. They went above and beyond to keep her safe and happy.
I would highly recommend the Van Mall Retirement Center.
My Dad was living at another facility when someone told me about Van Mall. I liked what I saw on my tour and I moved Dad in. He is extremely happy there. He has joined a weekly poker game and wouldn't miss it. The staff are friendly and helpful, the food is exceptional and is served restaurant style anytime throughout the day. This allows my dad the flexibility to eat when he wants instead of being herded in at a set time each day. Everyone who works there goes out of their way to be accomodating. Dad is always treated with respect by the staff.
This is a GREAT facility. I've heard it's the best food in town, and I believe it. My Dad has been there about 6 months now, and really likes it there. I'm glad he's there too, because I don't worry about him now.
The place is clean, quiet, conveniently located, the staff is very helpful. I could go on. In particular, the young people working in the dining room are very courteous and accommodating.
