Quality Of Care
We are horrified we moved our parents into this place. The administrators are not trained in health care for elderly and have no follow through on concerns. Staffing is inadequate for the amount of elderly in the facility and their needs. The CNA staffs' turnover is constant. Times we had to call the facility about health care concerns either no one answered or they were too busy to hear concerns. Many times medications were either wrong or not given, charts appeared to not be updated. Our parents were to receive regular bathing, but staff would not encourage it. Laundry was "done" but our parents looked homeless. Housekeeping included a brief gaze over not deep cleaning around the toliet and sinks, bedding not changed, garbage not take out. We called the state of Oregon with our concerns, and they had already been aware of issues.
The Staff that work for Bonaventure in all locations are some of the most hard working and caring individuals I have encountered. One would be so lucky to live in a community with staff like these guys and gals.
The food at Bonaventure of Salem is flavorful and cooked to order. When I inquired about moving my loved one here, the staff communicated with my dr about my specific dietary needs. I know that we are little more difficult and they have been great at educating my loved one at the monthly food forum or even on a one on one basis with the head chef.
Activities I cannot say enough great things about how much these ladies run and move through out the day. They are constantly thinking of new ways to help us have a good time! Including going to different outings and musical entertainment. In fact they even went above and beyond for a beautiful Veteran's wall on Flag day to honor all the veteran's living in the community.
This place is like a resort or a cruise ship on land! I know that my loved one will no longer be stuck in her home depressed and without friends. She will be active and happy and surrounded by kindred spirits. All places will have problems and unhappy customers but I can tell you if you come here you will also be happy and you will make new friends to last you a lifetime.
Staff---At Check in the contracts were only half done had to return two days later to finish them real had when you are wheel chair bound. At check out when told a date that you are leaving they didn't even have the paper work done then and tried to charge more than they had coming.
Activities---Them seemed to be on going
Food--- Cook had no care on what her help did while she was away as many times the dessert was hard u could not cut it with a knife. Dinners took 30 to 60 minutes most of the time to get and was only warm, food was below fair every chance we got to go out for meals we did. Cold sandwiches were severed on a hot plate.Cook said that they don,t handle special diets but manager said no problem with spacial diets. The caregivers were also used as waitress and waiters would look into if a health card is needed for caregivers to work in kitchen serving food and drinks. When no waitress or waiters were there the upper office help would serve food and drinks.
Care--- Most of the help was under trained or had two days of training and left on there own. The caregivers were always having to do double shifts, the lack of caregivers meant waiting sometimes 15-20 minutes for help if you needed it.
Facility---was for the most part clean but the bath room floors were very slippery because they use the wrong flooring.
Overall---If we had to do it again wood look harder at different places, the cost needs to be at least 1/3 less and hire more help in the caregiver side. Along with caregivers more kitchen help was badly needed.
