    On January 7th the residents of Brookdale Southside were told the water supply would be turned off for construction activities on January 10, 2016 at 9:00PM. After the water supply was restored the residents were advised to boil their drinking and food prep water for a minimum of one minute prior to using.
    Brookdale Southside offered to sell bottled water to the residents for $12.00 but did not stipulate what size the container would be.

    The "all clear" to use water from the tap was given on January 14, 2015.


    My concerns are multiple:

    1. This is a private paying community for senior living. Brookdale Southside has seniors in Independent living, assisted living and memory care. Independent living apartments have their own kitchens. 4 days without drinking water is a long time for this age group.

    2. This is a community of many levels of understanding and ability to communicate. Not all residents are able to or do go to the mailroom on a daily basis to pick a paper notice from management.

    3. $12.00 for water? I purchased my mother several 2.5 gallon jugs from Publix for $2.75 each.

    4. This is a population at higher risk for complications from coliform exposure than the average population.

    5. Since the water outage and ban on drinking the water was due to construction being performed by Brookdale, Brookdale should have provided the water free of charge to all residents.

    6. The dining room used paper plates, plastic utensils and paper cups while the water was being tested for potability. I am sure this was thought to be a convenience for the residents but try cutting a institution cooked pork chop with a plastic knife.

    Shame on you Brookdale for not taking the needs of your residents into consideration in this construction. This was more than an inconvenience. It was disrespectful to your residents to charge them for water (which granted they did not have to buy from you at inflated prices but not all your residents drive or can carry boxes of water) and poor communication on your part to make sure all residents were taken care of.

    They promise things but don't deliver. They lead you to believe you can get medical assistance in emeregency situations....had previously helped my mother get up after a minor fall and was provided first aid. We were told they had a nurse that could come check on her if she fell when we moved her in there 2 years ago. They have emergency pull cords in the apartments but recently when she fell again, NO ONE CAME! Now they are telling us that no one will come because it is independent living. They told her to call 911! Why do they have emergency pull cords if they aren't going to help my mother? The food is awful and they don't have enough staff it can take 1 and 1/2 hours to have dinner.They have a lot of staff turnover and that is their excuse for poor food service. There are several open positions, they say they are going to hire people but it doesn't happen. The services this past year have been disappearing.The number of activities weekly are minimal at best. Maintenance requests are ignored. This WAS a wonderful place 6 years ago for my aunt. I am looking for another facility....they are raising the prices AGAIN this time 5 and 1/2 percent. $4100 a month for minimal service, they should be reducing the price considering they aren't fully staffed and are not providing the services that they used to. I might as well move her to a regular apartment and have her eat out every night....it would be way cheaper. The only thing this place has that is good is the friends she has made. VERY DISAPPOINTING!

    Facility is a little on the expensive side compared to other local facilities. The facility can become overwhelming for those residents with dementia, because there are a lot of rooms and it may be difficult for residents to navigate through. The facility is also extremely short-staffed. There were not enough staff members attending to each individual resident. Staff members sometimes did the bare minimum or simply were looking to punch in and punch out. The menu options are also not very appetizing or appealing. There isn't much of a variety present and not enough healthy options.
