About Terry Lynch Aging Strategies

Terry Lynch is the owner of Strategies for Independent Aging and author of “But I Don’t Want Eldercare!” He specializes in helping older people remain as self-reliant and involved in community life as possible and in assisting family caregivers to maintain the quality of their own lives.
Shortly after leaving a federal government position to establish his speaking and consulting business, Terry was living his work. For the next 10 years he helped his mother remain at home in spite of a life-changing memory disorder and other challenging medical problems.
As Terry helped his mother navigate the healthcare maze and build a dynamic in-home support team of paid caregivers, he was also helping other families. He learned that most of us have more control over the future than we realize –if we are prepared for the destructive myths about what is “inevitable” as we age. He addresses these myths and provides strategies for overcoming them in his book, essays and his presentations, which have taken him as far as London.
Terry serves as Chair of the Wisconsin Board on Aging and is a Board member of the national Direct Care Alliance. He serves on the policy advocacy committee of the Alzheimer’s Association of Southeastern Wisconsin. Terry is actively involved in initiatives to reshape Wisconsin’s approach to long-term care, principally self-directed in-home services. In 2011 he was named a Fellow of the United Kingdom’s Centre for Welfare Reform.
