Silverado Beach Cities was very nice. I just felt like there were a lot of people per floor. It had a beautiful view of the ocean. Outside, it looked like a medical building but on the inside, it looked different. They had technical nurses able to provide medication. They had a lot of involved nurses and doctors. I didn't taste the food, but I have heard that everything is very good but obviously more expensive. It was nice. They were very welcoming and tried to work with us in trying to figure out what would be the best thing for Mom.
I visit my spouse every other day at Silverado Encinitas Memory Care Community. They provide good care. It’s a pleasant setting, and I enjoy going there. They have lots of activities, trips, and animals. The dining rooms are real sunny, and they’re redecorating. The staff, even the janitors, are really nice, helpful, have a lot of personality, and talk to him a lot. I like that they have support meetings for spouses and relatives. They have two meetings a month with a social worker who's very helpful. It’s expensive, and they could get more showers.
The staff from Silverado Encinitas was very welcoming. The lobby felt very homey. There were dogs sitting on the chairs and was like if I were to walk into my own home to be greeted by a puppy in the chair. There was a cat walking down the hallway, birds in cages, and a turtle in a cage. It’s a big facility with a swimming pool. My husband would be on the second floor. They have a no-lock door policy, so wherever he goes around the facility, he won’t be bumping into a locked door, except if he decides to go to the front door, which would be locked. They have specific activities that are research-based and designed to help, not improve, but at least maintain the memory ability of residents. They have a lot of options and social activities. Like next week, we’re going to go to a happy hour called "yappy hour" because your family can come and you can bring your dog. You can come anytime you want to to visit a person that’s there and eat with them at anytime because there’s no charge for the meal for you, which was a nice feature. They had a specific person in charge of all the activities to make sure that they are getting the most out of what they can do.
We toured Silverado and were very impressed! I have been to almost all the facilities in north OC and this one is most likely at the very top...however, I do not have anyone living here and realize that makes a big difference (hence 4 stars because I only have 'tour' experience). I was extremely impressed with the care takers who seemed to be involved with every resident they were attending. If they were not with a resident, they were on the move going to one. The building was clean even though there are dogs, cats and a rabbit. The activities I was told about were well planned for those who need a bit more care. They are also the most expensive we have looked at, but I believe well worth the price. Unfortunately, my parent does not have enough $, or I would have chosen this place.
I love everything this place does to create a warm, stimulating environment for memory-impaired people. From the care to the cleanliness to the food, they put maximum effort into it. I have heard the complaints that this place is pricey, but if people spent enough time here watching the staff care for the residents I think they would feel like it is money well spent.
