What I like best about Brookdale Sleepy Hollow are the personnel that are taking care of my mother. I think they know how to deal with people with dementia or Alzheimer's. It just shows that they are well-trained to take care of her and people like her. My mother says the food is very good. The place is clean and doesn't smell like urine like a lot of places do. They clean her room and bathroom often, so it's good.
Brookdale Memorial City (formerly The Terrace at Memorial City) was very nice but too expensive. I met the salesperson who gave us the tour, and she was delightful. It was very large, almost like being on a cruise ship, and very luxurious. It was one of the nicest I've ever seen. It's beautiful, and I would recommend them. I just wish I could afford it. They had a pool, gym, community room, church services, Uber driver, free meals, maid service, and laundry service. It's like a hotel.
I really liked the lady in charge of the sales at Brookdale Medical Center Kingsley. She gave me the tour, and the place looked really nice and clean. The dining area was clean, and the food was very nice. They had a salon, and the reception area was very nice. The room they showed me was furnished very well with a nice bathroom, and I was impressed. They just had a renovation, so everything was nice and clean.
Brookdale N. Fredericksburg Road looked old and I did not like it. It was not very impressive, and there was a smell to the place. It was an open house when we went, and they had barbecue in the courtyard. That part was nice, but I did not like the appearance of the whole place. They had a separate dining room for assisted living that was nice. The furniture was old, and the rooms needed a renovation.
I liked the location of Brookdale West University and that the people were about in the same shape as I am. This was the one that came out on top for me. However, they didn't have a microwave nor a wash and dryer, the refrigerators were old-fashioned, old appliances, and the kitchens were tiny. I’m using modern, up-to date appliances, and I’m not going backwards to someplace that didn’t have them. Other than that, the facility was nice. They had good social activities and a nice room for birthdays and special occasions, which I thought was nice. I really would rank it a 5, except for those minor things. This was the place I would have fit in, if they had just renovated everything. I didn’t hear any complaints from the people I know, who live there about the food, so I assume it’s good. There’s a lot of walking involved in going from one place to another, so if you have back trouble or a walking problem, it’s kind of hard.
Brookdale Ridgmar seemed like that they had everything a person would need, and seemed very convenient and safe. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The dining area looked very inviting, clean, and very nice. However, the elevators seemed a little close to the rooms, and whoever lives near might be disturbed.
We were very impressed with Brookdale Kingwood (formerly The Terrace at Kingwood). Our experience was very positive. We visited the dining hall and saw the menu, which looked varied and appealing. We visited briefly with the residents who seemed to be impressed with the food, and the staff was very helpful. The lady who did the tour for us introduced us to staff as we came across people, and it was very positive. Our overall impression was very good. From looking at the activities calendar, it looked like there was a lot to do. The staff we met were very friendly and seemed accommodating. I have recommended them as I have spoken with friends who are in the same situation with elderly patients.
Brookdale Ridgmar is a gated community that was a little expensive, and we could not afford it. They had good buffet-style meals. We looked at a one-bedroom and a two-bedroom that were clean and unfurnished. The staff who toured us was really helpful.
The facility is secured, you cannot go in or out without the assistance of a staff member. It is very inviting upon entrance. Some of the back halls could use some updating. The administrator's office is easy to find. Some staff was very nice, others didn't speak. The residents seemed very happy and satisfied. The Activity Director was very nice and attentive and patient with residents. The activity program was suited to the likes and need of the residents, not to the personal desires of the activity director. (This is rare). It was a very relaxed atmosphere. The grounds are very well kept.
Entering Brookdale Highland Lake looks like a nursing home by design. But due to the friendly staff and decoration it feels warm and welcoming. The staff willingly assist the residents with day to day activities. The residents are friendly and enjoys art and crafts. The rooms are small but, suitable for seniors and basic furniture. The doorways are wide for entering with wheelchairs. The bathrooms are functional and have handrails and nice flooring. The courtyard is large and relaxing. The covered porch has wicked chairs with cushion and rocking chairs to socialize or to enjoy the flowers. The meals are average and served resturant-style.
Brookdale Preston is a wonderful senior community. It's always clean and has comfortable sitting areas for lounging. The staff is professional and informative. The staff accommodates residents concerns and request in a timely manner. The rooms are open and spacious for seniors needs. The hallways and doorways are wide making it easier to maneuver through. The courtyard has wide walking paths and beautiful landscaping to enjoy. Meals are served in the dining halls with a lot of natural light. The tables are covered with linen tablecloths and, sits four with armchairs. The activities are average but, are fun and suitable for seniors. Activities are grouped and personalized to strengthen the residents health overall.
Brookdale Ennis is probably one of the best assisted living communities I've ever visited. The community is average in regards to having a well maintained courtyard and cleanliness, however the residents and staff are out of a story book. The activities are so fun that the family members and even the staff join in on the games. The residents were active and happy and willing to tell you so many positive stories about their experiences. This community is truly like home for the residents and staff. The residents love the nursing staff and feel like they are receiving good care. The staff were smiling and my pop-up visit proved that this staff is always doing the right thing. The staff were willing to answer all questions and even make recommendations for services and resources in an effort to help. The residents seem to have a big voice at this community and this spilled over into the dinning experience. The meals are healthy but also based on the preferences of the residents. Overall the staff was supportive and happy to be at work.
This facility provides so much for their residents with daily activities and events to meet the needs of each individual keeping everyone entertained. The staff is so friendly and helpful to the residents which seemed to make them feel as if they are each special & important. The dining room is large and spacious and the three times a day meals are as good as anything you might order at a fine dining restaurant but offering better nutritional options. They have an onsite beauty/barber shop. There is a small library and recreation/activity room. The courtyard is small but beautiful and well kept. And For those who like gardening there is a garden for residents to help tend.

The residents rooms are all spacious and comfortable no matter which floor plan.

The menu options at this facility seem to be packed full of variety. Meals are served in a restaurant style format and the menu seemed to have plenty of options to choose from. The inside of this facility is relatively nice. I found that this facility tends to be bright in some places, but a bit dim in others. Horizon Bay Wichita Falls has plenty of nice outdoor seating areas as well.
Brookdale Midwestern has a very cozy, comfy feeling about it. The facility is very nice on the outside with a porch like sitting area in the front. The style of the building gives it a homey atmosphere and inside the décor is a bit rustic, but nonetheless helping to add to this facility’s home-away-from-home atmosphere. Brookdale Midwestern had a very nice outdoor garden area and good recreational facilities for residents to sit and have a chat. As a whole, I liked Brookdale Midwestern as it feels like a relaxing facility.
Brookdale Sikes Lake has a great location and stunning views. This facility is located right next to Sikes Lake, meaning there are great views from the back of the facility. As a whole Brookdale Sikes Lake is a very clean, well-managed facility with nice outdoor areas and garden spaces. The facility has a restaurant style dining hall and seems to provide itself on providing home styled meals. Although I did not get a chance to eat any meals at this facility, they seem well prepared.

Though there aren’t any establishments in walking distance, on HWY 183 are plenty of establishments. There are plenty of places to eat and shop nearby; they just aren’t in immediate proximity. You have to go across the highway to see all the major establishments. Overall, Brookdale North Austin is a cozy facility with plenty of charm. Though its location may not be the most idea, it’s in a genuinely good area.
There are also plenty of great activities at this building that are hosted regularly. The event calendar at Brookdale North Austin seems to always remain full. With so many activities, I doubt residents are ever bored. Overall, Brookdale North Austin is a great facility with amazing curb appeal.
Brookdale New Braunfels is located off a main road, near a very quiet community in New Braunfels, TX. The facility is a few miles from major shopping and restaurants, but this is a retirement community filled with everything needed for seniors right on site.
This area can be a little busy at times, but the facility is safe, secure, and offers plenty of walking areas on the property. When I first arrived at the property, I noticed the plush landscaping and home-like design. This facility is beautiful inside and out, with clean common areas, open floor plan, and a warm atmosphere.
The facility offers assistance with activities of daily living, ambulation, and meals. There is full time housekeeping and laundry services available. The amenities include a salon, activity room, and media room. Some of the residents had dogs, which is something that should be considered for seniors who do wish to be around dogs. The resident population is small and friendly.
There is a fulltime activity director who is upbeat and friendly. There are many activities available at the facility. Parties, games, and craft classes to name a few. Many events are planned off site as well, so seniors will be busy at Brookdale New Braunfels.
The meals are fair in variety, and above average in taste. The food is not well seasoned due to diet restrictions of some of the residents, but it was still very good. The dining room is clean, and family-style dining is how meals are served here three times per day. The dining room is a little congested, and lacking in décor, but it is comfortable and adequate.
Most of the residents appeared to need assistance with walking and moving around. A few seemed to independently move about and socialize. I would choose this facility for seniors looking for a small community of residents to socialize with and a family-style environment. The staff members that I observed appeared to be nice and very patient, and everyone seemed to be attended to. There is not a lot to do in the area within about four or five miles.
