Medicaid in Oklahoma

Oklahoma Medicaid, called SoonerCare, is available to low-income residents including families with children, pregnant women, the elderly, those with disabilities and women under age 65 being treated for breast or cervical cancer. The program covers part or all of the cost of a wide range of health care services, such as doctor visits, inpatient hospital services, prescriptions, transportation and nursing home care. SoonerCare is administered by the Oklahoma Health Care Authority, and it’s an entitlement program that provides assistance to everyone who meets these qualification requirements:

  • Oklahoma resident
  • U.S. citizen or qualified alien
  • Monthly income of no more than $2,250 for an individual or $4,500 for a couple
  • No more than $2,000 in countable resources
Income from all sources counts. Certain assets, such as a primary home valued under $585,000 and an automobile are exempt. To apply for SoonerCare, visit the OHCA website or call (800) 987-7767. ADvantage Waiver Program The ADvantage Waiver program is available to seniors who need long-term nursing home care but wish to live in their own home. Seniors also have the option of receiving services in an assisted living facility. Covered support and services may include case management, adult day health care, transportation, hospice care, personal care assistance, disposable medical supplies and specialized medical equipment. This waiver is not an entitlement, and there may be a waiting list. To qualify,  residents must:

  • Be 65 or older or designated by the SSA as a disabled adult
  • Require a nursing facility level of care as determined by the Aging Services Division
