The Medicaid Assisted Living Waiver Program offers financial assistance to seniors in Reno and throughout Nevada when they reside in an approved assisted living facility. The program was created to prevent seniors from becoming further institutionalized when they require a nursing level of care and to reduce the load on the state’s nursing care homes. It provides seniors with a variety of services including case management, daily nurse visits, and additional supportive services.

Seniors who wish to participate in the program must be 65 years of age or older and require a nursing level of care. They must also reside in an approved assisted living facility that receives Nevada’s Low-Income Housing Tax Credit. Financial requirements stipulate that seniors may not have a monthly income exceeding $1,396 to be eligible for this waiver. Nevada Home and Community-Based Waiver

The Nevada Home and Community-Based Waiver (HCBW) is a non-Medicaid program that’s provided by the state. Optional State Supplement
