I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My parent has been a resident at GreenRidge for nearly 10 years, since its opening. They have been a caring, responsible home and are able to differentiate the various forms dementia takes and tailor their approach to care for your loved one. We have seen staff continuity, and when there has been change the quality of care has remained. They treat our parent like a beloved family member! The facility is clean, meals are good and varied, and activities designed for a variety of interests and levels of dementia. Should my time come to need long term memory care, this is where I would want to be. You will be in good hands here!

Communication is very much a problem. Took almost 2 years before anyone addressed a care plan. At first care conference they gave 14 days only to have a 30 day discharge on very sparse reasoning that you can't contest. Didn't feel there was effort put into the support. The solution wasn't to try and resolve and support, it was to move to increased care.

The Director and Admissions staff, Nurses and the Social workers are all knowledge. They keep me updated on my Aunts health. She is very well taken care of. The rooms are clean ,and the staff do a good job with up keep. My Aunt is on a soft diet and the nurse's do a great job feeding her, she wasn't eating well at home. I'm very pleased with their services.

They have a bedbug infestation throughout the entire building and will not tell you before moving in. When we removed our mother, she had 30+ bedbug bites all over her body. We had to leave all of her belongings behind and bought all new furniture and clothes for a new senior independent apartment. They also have a mold issue. The amenities that they promise are not totally provided. DO NOT MOVE YOUR LOVED ONES THERE!

My father had 2 bad falls there. One broken femur and another shortly thereafter which required a trip and a stay in the emergency Room The doctor at the E Room reported he was very dehydrated and under weight HE WENT FROM THE HOSPITAL TO HOSPICE FROM TOP TO BOTTOM THE STAff seemed lazy and seemed to do the minimum amount of general care WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE MAINTENANCE AND HANDY MAN STAFF

I am a past client of this provider

My dad moved here in January, 2021, during the COVID lockdown. He fell in February, 2021 and was hospitalized and in a rehab facility for some time after that. He died at the end of May, 2021. I think the caregivers here took advantage of the fact that family members could not visit during lockdown. Our family does not believe that he was treated kindly or with compassion with a number of the staff. A staff member said hateful and unkind things about him (at the time that he was in the late stages of dementia) to my mother which then caused her great distress. She did not feel comfortable sharing her concerns with management out of fear that they would retaliate against my dad. They lost his hearing aids, and then found them again, four months after his death (and four months after we were charged $700 for a cleaning fee). I wouldn\'t recommend this facility to anyone. His time here was a time of great hardship on my family. Also this place charges a small fortune and someone is getting rich and it\'s not the day-to-day caregivers. The best thing I have to say about it is that it didn\'t smell bad.

What a fabulous facility! My parents are very happy at Lakeview and we couldn’t be more pleased. We had great references that said nothing but positive things. They are all true. It has been such a great experience to have them there. The staff is incredible and they are kind caretakers. So thankful!

My mom is at Lakewood Estates, and it's a very bright and very open place. It has a lot of positive energy, and they have a fantastic staff. They have a big beauty salon, religious services to choose from, a small exercise area, an arts-and-crafts area, pool tables, and theater rooms. It has a lot of amenities and social avenues. It's homey, and I think they do a very good job at trying to keep it comfortable.

I visited this facility

I visited Kipling Meadows and it seemed to be very light, and bright, and a cheerful place. The people seemed very happy, and it just got a nice atmosphere about it. I only looked at the one-bedroom. It was a nice size, clean, and looked out on the courtyard. The living quarters were very nice. It was not too long ago that they updated, and they have done a beautiful job with that. They have an exercise room, a library, and areas where people meet to do crafts and things like that. I liked the place.

Financial Assistance for Assisted Living in Jefferson County

Medicaid in Missouri

MO HealthNet is the Medicaid program for seniors and disabled people in Jefferson County and Missouri as a whole. This program helps low-income residents pay for many of their health care expenses as well as some types of long-term care.

Services covered at low or no cost include nursing home care, in-home care, hospitalization, outpatient services and related lab or X-ray fees, physicians, dental care, drugs and medical equipment.

Eligibility requirements for seniors include:

  • Missouri resident and U.S. citizen or qualified noncitizen
  • Aged 65+
  • Net monthly income below $885; $1,198 for married couples if both apply
  • Value of countable assets below $3,000; $6,000 for married couples if both apply

Countable assets for the purpose of MO HealthNet include bank accounts, cash and investments. The family home isn’t counted if it’s occupied by the applicant or dependent. Other exempt assets include one vehicle, personal effects, household items and burial trusts.

There are much higher limits allowed for both assets and income for married couples if the applicant is receiving nursing care while their spouse is not.

Missouri does not cover assisted living by default. However, seniors can receive partial coverage from MO HealthNet for assisted living if approved for the Supplemental Nursing Care program explained below.

Seniors can apply online or by mail or call the Family Support Division at (855) 373-4636 for help in the application process. Alternatively, Jefferson County residents can find a local office to apply in person.

Supplemental Nursing Care

MO HealthNet partially covers assisted living if the person also has approval for the Supplemental Nursing Care program. SNC only provides a small monthly payment; however, it’s a cash payment, which means it can be used in facilities that don’t accept Medicaid.

As of 2019, individuals in assisted living facilities receive $292 per month, and those in residential care facilities receive $156. There is also a $50 personal needs allowance for all SNC recipients.

Eligibility requirements include:

  • Aged 21+
  • Financially eligible for MO HealthNet
  • Living in a facility licensed by the state
  • If in a nursing home, must receive DHSS certification

Each client’s case manager or the staff at the facility they’re living in generally handles applications for the SNC.

Other Financial Assistance Programs for Assisted Living

Veterans Affairs Aid and Attendance

Veterans or their family members should make sure they’re receiving all of the benefits entitled to them from the VA, such as the Aid and Attendance program. Seniors who meet the requirements receive an extra payment each month on top of the pension they’re getting now, and this can be used to help pay for assisted living.

To be eligible for the A&A program, individuals must require help with activities of daily living, be bedridden or in nursing care or have poor eyesight.

Recipients of this program must also have an honorable discharge, a service history with a minimum of 90 days active duty and one day of wartime.

Veterans can apply for the Aid and Attendance program at the St. Louis Regional Office of the VA.

Elderlife Bridge Loan

This type of financing offered by Elderlife is for seniors who can’t qualify for other types of financial assistance and need fast access to cash on a short-term basis. This loan can help pay for relocation, entrance fees and additional initial costs associated with assisted living.

A bridge loan generally comes with a term of one year or less, so it can be a good option for seniors who are waiting on other applications for assistance or the sale of assets such as their home.

Seniors undergo an application process similar to other loans, which means their credit score and additional financial details are the key factors.

Interested persons can read more and apply online at Elderlife Financial Services.
